BCV Studio rehab- a hot mess!

Hopefully our studio is not typical for this redo as far as the quality of workmanship and the sloppiness of the work. However, the design is what it is and for that Disney deserves a failing grade. They are capable of much better but chose a cheap and boring design with poor functionality. I think the entire budget must have been spent on the folding murphy bed. There was a time that we weren't even allowed 5 people in the one bedroom at OKW. Now they are cramming 5 into those small studios and the design of the room itself is suffering.

We stayed at the WLV last summer for two weeks after that redo and felt that that one was much better. It still had some charm, even with the folding trailer table murphy bed monstrosity.

I haven't seen the BCV refurb in person yet although from pictures have thought it was fairly bland and unimaginative for Disney. I didn't have a lot of love for the VWL refurb either although as the comparisons are coming out it's showing itself to be much better in design so it's all just about the levels being set. Part of VWL though was that a few of the custom details, such as the woodwork were built in and thankfully they were smart enough to leave them. But the workmanship was just as poor as what you report for BCV. Of course they blew thru VWL in approx 1 MONTH! BCV also seems to be a slightly more aggressive schedule than say BWV although not quite as bad as VWL. VWL also has fridges that don't fit (we fiddled for awhile thinking someone has pulled it out until we realized it had to be that way or you couldn't open the door). At BWV - the new sinks they put in don't allow the garbage cans to fit under the sink anymore. Reports are they compensated for ill fitting fridges at the BCV 1BR's by putting in compact apartment size 10.6 cu ft fridges vs full size. IMO Disney has yet to hit a home run on design and execution with any of the refurbs at WDW but seems like BWV comes closest. Your VB pictures do look nice - retaining a feel of the resort that people bought in to. I continue to dislike the Murphy bed furniture though too. And no drawers in the BCV studio vanity? Huh?! It's kind of encompassing many of the design flaws of the HA rooms with lack of storage etc.

BCV studios have had a smaller coffee pot for years. Just call for the larger ones.

We spent 4 nights in a BCV studio last week, and DH and I were happy with the look!

I've never had the 4 cup pot in any studio, including BCV. But there have been reports of them here and there without a doubt.

I will have to say the VWL rehab makes it look like the Waldorf compared to this rehab! I agree with the OP. No theme at all. Really disappointed for Beach Club. I always liked it's original color scheme.

Just a comment about requesting a full-size coffee maker. Don't wait until the morning to request one. We made the mistake of doing that and to took us 2 hours before we got one-2 hours without my coffee in the morning makes me VERY grumpy! However, when we did get the full size one, it was brand new, still in the box. We just should have requested it earlier.

As a person contemplating buying BCV points, this gave me pause. I think of 'beachy' colours as the hues of the actual colours of a beach, not what I see in your pictures. I agree with you, the overall look and fit are poorly done. I don't know if Disney has their own crew or if they are sub-contract, but there is a disconnect between the idea of a 'beach club' villa and the rehabbed result. I didn't know about the murphy being installed. So these rooms will now fit five?

Yes, these studios now sleep 5. As an owner I am not a fan of this. Absolutely hate that table setup, I want the real table back. I do like the look of the unit the Murphy bed is in but the "drawers" are a total joke.

Whoever came up with this concept should be fired. That said, 5 in a studio is popular among some people. Does not make sense since the 1 bedroom still sleeps only 4.

The hall carpet in the villas is now the same as in the resort, at least on the resorts first floor. I like it, and I am happy that the picture/print depicting south Jersey and Cape May can still be found in the hall by the single elevator.

Except for the table, I like the look and colors, DH did too.

I sold BCV about a year and a half ago and will be closing on Vero in August. Sorry to hear about BCV, but happy to hear about Vero, for me it is confirmation that I made the right decision.

I can't speak to fit and finish and there are some minor issues raised but most of this is simply personal choice. As I've said many times, studios are really made for 2 people and anytime one decides to do more, it simply adds more to the compromise of studio even in the best of times. DVCMC is tasked with making the best decisions possible for such matters and that includes cost, possibly this was part of the issue. The move to 5 in a studio is just going to make these other issues worse, not better.

What, did you say there is no ceiling fan??? That would be horrible. As others said, no glass in doors for many years. I always thought it odd....also have gotten a small coffee pot in other studios, not a big deal, I call and they bring a full size one. Been in the rehab at BWV and not impressed there either. Don't like the lack of storage at all. We often are there for 2 weeks, so things get piled up elsewhere....we don't like to live out of our suitcases. My husband, a contractor, is always pointing out the cheap or sloppy work. We call it the lowest bidder issue. When I stayed in the BWV in a rehab room in Feb, the makeup mirror was falling off the wall as screws were missing. We told someone.....well to my surprise we were back in the same room in May and the screws were still missing.....what can you do at that point!

If I may ask - whom did you tell? A call to maintenance?

We stayed in May in a non-refurbished studio--our coffee pot was the full size (12 cup) Mr. Coffee. There must be inconsistency within the BCV because I was told that all pots were 4 cup. I brought filters for a 4 cup only to arrive and find the 12 cup. It made us happy because we would have to make more pots each morning rather than one. Those 4 cup pots should be removed in favor of the 12 cup--you can always make less, but it is a real inconvenience to make many pots.

We told our housekeeper in person and even brought her into the room and showed her. We also told a cm at the front desk in person when no one ever came by to fix it.

It would cost at least a dollar more for a full size coffee maker. The exec's and their families gotta eat, ya know... :rolleyes2

I've had that happen many times, sadly. One time I called for a running toilet and a maintenance guy actually showed up.... I thought I'd won the lottery!

We were on a DCL cruise when VGF was introduced, I think we got the lowdown on VGF even before it was made public on land. They announced that they listened to members and now you can have 5 in a studio! The overwhelming response was positive.

VGF and Poly studios have split baths with a tub as well as a shower stall. Those studios for 5 work better in my opinion!

Problem is, there is a good chance the the mousekeeper and front desk CM didn't notify engineering/maintenance. Different people, different department. In the case of our missing kitchen drawer, maintenance admitted that they lost the drawer and that they needed to have a new one made but didn't take the time to do so.
