Heading down next week with wife, son(12), and mother-in-law. Mom & mom plan on sharing a bed, (hopefuly queen - are they all queen in studio?). Son & myself will share the twin. Do you think this will be so uncomfortable to ruin our first trip home? Only there for 4 nights, and plan to be very busy during the day, so most likely will not be spending a lot of tie in the room. Thoughts? Am I making a big mistake?

do you like togetherness - I would not be happy - but I probably need more room

the sleeper sofa is a full not a twin - but I think you would be crowded -

would you consider oKW - at least then you get 2 queen beds

Depends on your family. I for one have to have my *space*, but maybe 4 nights would be fine. Spiceycat's suggestion for OKW is a good option too.

There are a lot of nice "hangout" places at this resort if you feel too much "togetherness." We stayed 4 in a studio last summer, myself, dh and the two kids. It was fine. Kinda tight but we were busy and spent time in the lobby, drawing room, tons of time at the pool and Beaches&Cream. There will also be a balcony. Of course a 1-bedroom is great but the point difference is major... We get an extra trip each year if we suck it up and stay in a studio, so we go and make do! Have fun!

Even a grand villa wouldnt be big enough for me if my mother was there, too, but I assume that you are talking about available physical space . A studio is very tight with 4 adult-sized people, but it's possible to do. Still, you will enjoy your trip a lot more--and maybe DW and MIL might still be speaking to you--if you thought about a one bedroom over at BCV. If that's just not possible with the amount of points you have available, consider OKW. Their studios have 2 queen beds, and slightly more space than the studios at BCV. A trip to Disney should be enjoyable, not just something to be endured.

Sounds too tight and crowded for me too...

MIL or not

thanks

If it were me, I wouldn't even consider it.

Wow, I'll bet you are glad you asked, huh? :jester:

Since you said you leave in a week, I assume you were looking for a bit of reassurance and any tips.

Yup, bed is Queen sized, and pull out couch is Full. One nice thing about having the couch is that during the day you can fold it up and have more floor space.

Since you already said that you'll be out of the room most of your non-sleeping hours, that will reduce your need for space. I'd assume not a lot of in room naptime since your son is 12, so you won't be 'trapped' in there while they nap the afternoon away. More time for taking a mid-day swim in Stormalong Bay! :)

One thing I would do is get daily trash and towel service (not the full cleaning - we can make our own beds!) This is only $10 per day (vs $25 for a full cleaning), and those clean towels and empty trash bins might make things seem a bit less cluttered.

Go, have a wonderful trip, and if its too crowded for your family, you'll know to try something different the next time!

There were 4 of us in a studio at BCVs for a week long stay over spring break. My husband, myself, our 13 year old son and 8 year old daughter. We took down a full sized aero bed and it worked great. It fit right into the area inside the door and was out of the way for walking through to the pull out sofa. Maybe your son could sleep on the aerobed as ours did and then you and your wife could be together and grandma can be on the pull out. We got our aerobed at Bed, Bath and Beyond for about $65.00 on sale. Our son carried it on the plane. It has its own motor and fits into a small duffle bag. It was great and really helped us maximize the space there.

Good Points Tagrel...

Note to self, be more helpful and positive next time

Thanks
Jason

I think it's doable. Dh, myself, ds, dd and my mother have stayed at the Beach Club. The rooms we were in had 2 queen beds and a daybed. We managed fine and never had any problems. Those particular rooms may be slightly larger than the BCV studio, but not by much AND we had 5 not 4 in the room.

I thnk it completely depends on the dynamics of a particular family as to whether it will work or not. With a little patience and tolerance towards each other, I think 4 days will be fine.

Have a great trip! :bounce:

Thanks to KandK'smom. I think I might look into one of those aero beds for future trips. I'm trying to picture room enough for a full aero bed by the door in a BCV studio and can't picture it, though...
We only bought 150 points and plan on staying in studios for awhile. We have a 5 and 2 year old, both girls who are very close. They sleep fine together, but we know once they get a little older, preteen, we're gonna have to add-on. (Probably right after we pay this one off.) Right now by doing studios we can get at least two good trips. Even this next year I'm taking one short trip w/o hubby and vice versa, 2 nights before Christmas AND 4 nights during spring break, all cause we're going in studios. 10 nights! Even if we go one full week, which we'll probably start doing instead we'll still have enough for maybe 2 nights at VB! We won't cook so the kitchen is kinda a mute point, although the mini kitchen works just fine for us. Breakfast and snacks, even sandwiches.
If you are fine with MIL (No way in &%$$ my hubby could do it! And double vice versa for that matter! LOL) I'd say go for it. Really with your son being older you probably won't be in the room much.
I do like the idea from Tagrel about towels, but remember you can always wash your own for free. And isn't there a place to take your trash? :)

When you enter a studio through the main door, there is an area like a little "courtyard" of sorts where there is a another door to the side. This is where you would head to the rest of the room if it were a 1 or 2-bedroom. This little "area" adds a lot of floor space to the room. We used it to store lots of stuff like beach toys and lifevests; I pack heavy. I do think there would be enough room for an airbed here.

We had a dedicated then? No door there. Maybe the dedicated are smaller?

Just looked quickly online. Found a minute aerobed? for a twin - 69.00, no tax and free shipping. Sounds like a good deal?
Is this what you bought that fit inside the door?
Do standard twin sheets fit over it? I thought it was odd that it said it could be used as a pool float, too!

I'm curious. Would all the people who say that 4 to a studio is too cozy feel the same about 4 in an All Stars room? How about 4 in a moderate? 4 in a deluxe? Or, is it the MIL issue :)?

We have stayed 3 in all of the above (2 adults and 1 child), plus studios at OKW and VWL and 1 bedrooms at OKW, BWL and BCV. Although I admit that I prefer the larger accomodations, the smaller ones -- even the All Stars room -- were fine. I liked the studio at the VWL a lot better than the moderates. Why? (1) I could fold up the couch during the day and have more "living" room and (2) We had the porch that we could also spread out on.

For me, it's the mother-in-law issue. It would be the same for an aunt, uncle, pretty much anyone outside my core family unit. If it were just a family of four, "cozy" would be just fine.

I'm sure many people don't feel the way I do about it!

MIL in for me too - as mentioned above it is having another adult outside of the core family group that would cinch it for me to have more space. I would think a family of four would be ok - thinking M/F, 2 offspring here

Thanks

It all depends on your options. I'm preparing to go down for 2 weeks in a studio at VWL & BCV with my three children (ages 10, 6, 5). We've stayed in a 1 BR for part of one trip and loved the extra room/washer&dryer, but the points are twice as much. While I would love to have 2 weeks (btw length of trip is non-negotiable!) in a 1BR, we do fine in the studio. I take our trash out each day to the "trash room", conserve towels by hanging to dry, and do laundry in the laundry room. Probably the biggest hang-up I've noticed from the length of trip in a studio is my kids get on my nerves after very long in the room. We try to spend time outside and around the property to relieve some of the togetherness. Go and have a great time!:)

I appreciate all the positive, and even the "no way in hell" viewpoints. MIL is not an issue - she's my drinking buddy! Cozy, I knew going in, very cozy, I still think I can handle. I guess I'm chalking this 4 night jaunt up as a learning experience as a test of nerves, a learning experience, and to see if these types of accomodations are worth the point-stretching benefits. I have a family of 5, (3 boys - 17, 15 and 12), so future visits with the entire family will be in a 2 bedroom. I'm trying for 4 trips this year, so I had to make my 300 points go as far as I could. Who knows, these accomodations may be tolerable for me and allow me the opportunity to visit more, but I was getting a bit of cold-feet the week before. I'm hoping for the best! Thanks for everybody's insights !!
