I thought I would turn to the experts on this one!:surfweb: We have visited several different resorts in December just my husband and I, but this year will mark our first trip as DVC owners!!!! :banana:So excited, moving on...we have a 2 year old and he LOVES swimming. Is stormalong bay heated enough he could play in it...has anyone done it with a toddler? :confused3Did they freeze to death? :confused3Would hate to ruin a perfectly good trip to Disney with a frozen toddler! :scared1: Thanks so much!

I am probably no help because I live in Florida, but you wouldn't catch me swimming in January anywhere! Last January was brutally cold, there is no way in those temps anyone was swimming. Its usually our coldest month here. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Again it might be fine for others to swim when its 30-40 degrees out but no this southerner! :)

We went last Jan I believe the 2nd week and it was cold. My daughter and I ventured in on the warmest day because I had to go in the best pool in WDW before we left. But we didn't last too long. January is iffy at WDW. Most of the time we've had great weather but last year was our coldest trip so far. We still had a great time but really wasn't able to take advantage of Stormalong.

Not sure about SAB, but we were there for MLK week last week, and swam several days of the week. We were lucky that we were there after the horrible bad week prior to MLK.
Two years ago, we went the same week and swam several times as well.

We are northerners too, but I like it to be in the upper 80s-90s to swim. I got in a couple of times, but didn't stay long or really enjoy it. My dds had fun though.

Have fun.

From what i understand, all of the pools are heated to 80 something degrees. But, coming out of the pool to the cold temps could be an issue.
We were there the first week of December last year, and it was cold out. You could tell all the New Yorkers because we were the only ones in the pool, while the lifeguards were kidding with us on how crazy we were; and they're in "winter" clothing.... Oh...we were in the hot tub...that's about 103-106 degrees.:thumbsup2

Last Feb was way too cold to swim, although it was the 1st year in 15 years that I did not swim at least 1 or more days. Prior to last year we would have at least 3 days out of 10 in the low 80's while in Disney but it is all up to mother nature. (we also plan park/non park days based on the weather)

Thanks everyone!!! We are from Ohio, so we are used to feet of snow by that time of year!!! We always laugh at all the people in gloves and scarfs in the 50-60 degree weather! But sounds like we should start praying for an exceptionally hot January!!!!!!!!!

We spent last Christmas at Kidani and it was funny to see, kids swimming and life guards bundled up in parkas and wind suit pants! I did not swim but the kids had fun...it was chilly at night 50's and 60's...one night it even got in to the high 30's- no swimming that night and my daughter was bundled up like we were at home visiting the festival of lights instead of vacationing in florida to escape the cold:)

I just saw your location disneyloverforchrist, I am from the Cincy area too! I have ran in to 2 other Cincy area families today on DIS....Funny, been on here almost 2 years and today finding all my hometown folks....

Not Ohio, but your neighbor in WV. We go to WDW in January for the last 4 years in a row now (one of many trips per year). We have NEVER gotten in the pool during our January trips. We too know about cold weather here in the mountains of WV, but for some reason, it always seems cold in WDW in January. I always say it's because at home, we're not running around outside from daylight to dark. Yes we take our coats, hats, scarfs and gloves. The only pool water we ever touch is the hot tub, which is a must on those January trips. Only once during one of these Jan/Feb trips did it actually get to 80 one day. We layed by the pool for a while and warmed up. But when that sun goes down, watch out, it can get mightly cold. We're booked again at OKW from Jan. 16-Feb. 1

As people have said, it was very very cold last January. We haven't had good luck in November at SAB, either. I have pictures when our family was the only ones in SAB, and it was sunny, but it was very cold. It was around November 17th...maybe 2008. Our DGC were 3, 4 and 5. Now, I "save" our BCV points for warmer months.

That is awesome! I don't feel like I see a ton of other fellow Cincinnatians on here! :thumbsup2I was born and raised her but moved to Columbus for college and now am back in Cincy after seven years!

Thanks again everyone for your input! I guess now that we are BCV owners, we are going to have to start booking a couple summer trips. I have tried to avoid Disney in the summer like the plague, but perhaps it is time I give it a try again!!! Is there a certain time during the spring/summer/early fall that isn't nearly as crowded that we could still utilize the pool?

May is a beautiful time, and well, we did have a very rainy May a year ago, we were in the pool!

I teach at UC...p/t math teacher at Blue Ash, Raymond Walters College.

Late for this one, but I was there the week before Christmas last year. It was in the high 50s. January should be about the same. The SAB pools were a nice temperature, but the hard part was getting out of the pool. It may be a challenge for a 2-year-old, because he may not be fully submerged. If you go in, make sure you have a robe or heavy towel for getting out.

We went this past February and stayed at OKW. It was chilly. The kids still swam, but I stuck to the hot tub, which was great. It was cold when you got out, but quite invigorating. Here's hoping you encounter some unseasonably warm weather!:goodvibes

It is hit or miss that time of year. We have been in Jan and then this past Feb. Both trips had a couple of OK swimming days, a couple of really pushing it days and a couple of no way swimming days. And this from a northern New Englander. In Feb our first day was an OK swim day but my 4 yr old was coming off a cold. He was perfectly happy to sit and play in the sand and only get his feet wet. I think your toddler will have a good time in or out of the water :)

Last January was rare! Sometimes it can be very hot here in Florida in January!

We've stayed at BCV in March, and I couldn't imagine going into the water since it was so chilly that time of year.

We always go to WDW in December or January, and we always swim A LOT. One year it got down below freezing but we still swam. The trick, as one poster already noted, is to have lots of towels and a big sweatshirt handy to put on right after you get out of the pool. Honestly, move quickly and it's not bad. We've even swum outdoors in the winter at Keystone Resort here in Colorado on a day when the HIGH was 0F!

Good luck and have fun!
