Just returned from a 7 day visit to WDW with DH and DS (3). While we had a terrific time, especially enjoying FW, we did have an issue with the room. I know folks are weary of complaints about this resort, but it is disappointing to have problems with things that should be working properly as a matter of course. Over the course of two days mid-trip we had absolutely no hot water. On the first day, we had hoped for late afternoon showers after swimming and before dinner. When there was no water, we called maintainance and the front desk, imagining that all would be well by the a.m. The next morning we had the same problem...no water out of any hot water taps. The staff we talked to seemed largely unconcerned. This was disturbing as at one point, we were informed that the hot water was out in the entire Villa complex!

We are not complainers at all; we love our trips to Disney and have had generally terrific service. I just can't imagine why it is so difficult for Disney to maintain normal service at such a supposedly 4 star resort. We've also had significant problems with housekeeping at BCV on past trips.

Although we own at BCV, we have had much better experiences at VWL and OKW, as well as HH. Given that we have small ones, the pool at BCV will likely trump other considerations for awhile.

We had that happen at POR earlier this year right after checkin and getting to the room. When I called they said the boiler was down. I don't know how many buildings that affected but we were down several hours but fortunately it was up that evening. It was a misty February day too so it was nice to get in and warm up:D .

Did you asked to be moved?

Being without hot water is a major pain. Plus, unsanitary with not being able to wash dishes, etc.

Did they offer to move you?

Though my children enjoy the pool, I will not be using my BCV points at BCV until I see a trend in improvement at this resort. Things like no hot water--or any water coming out of the spout at a resort is unacceptable. While I can be both patient and tolerant, the lack of explanation and uncaring attitudes you encountered are inexcuseable. I had the same experiences with the CM's here. I still have not rec'd a response from Member satisfaction after the experince I had in July. I really don't think anyone cares. The resort has its great pool and they figure that will make up for poor service and bad attitudes.

We are still at the BCV and have had some problems but they were resolved. We also had a hot water problem but it was resolved quickly. The other problems are problems with past guests of this room. When we went to use the DVD player someone had stolen the cables, someone stole the lightbulb from three lights. The lady from engineering told us that people are destroying the rooms. She has seen cases lately of people prying the Mickey Mouse circles out of the master bedroom TV cabinet doors. These then have to be custom replaced. The problems are not all because of the BCV's staff it is also the people staying in the rooms that are destructive. She also stated that they have recently had rooms where you couldn't see the floor through the mess when they came in after checkout.

The question I have is why don't they inventory the room before the guest checks in and then after. If there is damage that cannot be reasonably explained then they should have to pay the cost to repair it. Some wear & tear is to be expected but destruction/theft should be payed for. It doesn't matter if you are an owner, renter, or paid guest we should treat the rooms with respect. I am sick and tired of hearing all the complaints about the condition of the BCV's and want people to take better care of their rooms.

We vacuum and clean everyday when we are here and we have never had bugs (knock on wood). A little care and the resort will last the 50 years we own it for. I know this is long but I needed to voice my opinion.

Thanks
Judy

I couldn't agree more! ::yes:: This is my home resort also, al\nd although we have had mostly good experiences there, it's now getting to the point where you go in *expecting* to find something. That's not how I want to start my vacation!

Holy smokes!! I cannot imagine what people are thinking!! :sad2:

...absolutely no hot water.
Come on people, don't act so helpless. You want hot water? Well fire up that coffee maker and get on with your vacation.

I don't understand why there isn't a more thorough inspection after each checkout. Then the appropriate party could be charged for the damage. Or a checklist for DVCrs to check off -- similar to when you rent a car?

Just some thoughts....

You know it wouldn't be that hard to police people. Take a credit card deposit at check in for damages. If you arrive to the room and there are damages from the previous occupant inform the management. ANy additional or new destruction or theft then can be charged to the people that did it. Just knowing you will be charged for the damage is enough to make people think twice before damaging or stealing from a room.

I thought this was a given anyway. Are you telling me that they are taking NO recourse on people damaging the rooms or are we just assuming it. Surely they aren't just replacing and fixing at their/OUR cost. Disney just didn't become who they are by giving things away like that.

I assumed that if I stole a towel, wrote my name in the headboard with a knife, or cracked the toilet in half swinging a golf club in the room, I would get charged for it because they obviously know who was in the room when. They come in and do something to the rooms to get them ready for the next guest even if its just replace the linens, towels, and soap so they would know when it happened in most cases and what condition the room was in before that person came in.

Now a quick punchlist would also make sense too. TV-check, lightbulbs-check, no damage-check, no missing items-check, etc. Would be harder to check things like operation of a dishwasher without running it through a cycle, stove, etc without a pretty thorough check of the systems.

I agree absolutely with all those who suggest that the room conditions at BCV can largely be blamed on inconsiderate guests. We are very careful to monitor our children and their use of the room, and expect to be charged if we actually damaged any items in the room.

What bothers me most is that the wear and tear at BCV seems so much more severe and obvious than at any other resort we have stayed in. OKW is a much older resort, and I've never seen so much chipped paint, scratched furniture, etc. in any room there. Further, we have never had problems anywhere else with basics like plumbing, A/C, housekeeping.

We did think about asking for another room after the first day of no hot water, but we were naive enough to imagine that Disney would fix the problem promptly.

Any thoughts on why BCV seems to be taking a hit more often than any of the other resorts? We just got back from OKW and everything looked (or perhaps was) new!

Well as long as you are staying someplace else, it should make it easier for me to get in BCV.

Actually I stayed there not too long ago and had a great stay with no issues. I acutually think the furniture at BCV is suppose to be somewhat distressed looking (ie it is your beach house you don't put the new fancy stuff at) I was looking at my coffee table and thought.... I think it is suppose to look like this. I have seen painted tables just like it in lots of furniture stores....

I would be pretty upset if I went on vacation to find no hot water. We have been having trouble with our hot water here at home and have had the plumber over a couple of times - I definately don't want to deal with that when I am away.

I hope all the water problems are fixed by december when I arrive!!

Sorry you had to deal with that.

BCV has problems. There may be many reasons for the problems. What bothers me most now is that they seem to just continue on without doing much about the situation. When you check into a room that costs as much as it does at BCV you should expect the very best, you are not getting anywhere near that at BCV. You should not have to feel you are lucky to get a room without any problems. I have said way too much about this place in the past. I just feel sorry for those people that check into the place thinking they are staying at an upscale resort and have to face these problems. It just is not right.

Carol--That is what I had been thinking but thought I would wait until our December trip in a two bedroom to make sure before posting that.

smr33--I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. Water problems can happen anywhere at any time but if it hadn't been fixed in a reasonable amount of time I would have insisted they move my family and compensated us in some way for the inconvenience. It's been my experience that Disney wants you to have a good stay and will try their best to please you if they possibly can. Regardless if people stay on points or cash, they deserve a room in good working condition.

When we stayed at BCV in the beginning of October, we had a quick, early check-in and the room (studio) was in good shape. We really had no problems, hot water or otherwise. However, I have an idea about why the studios can be a little worn: they are too small. Unluess you get the coffee table right up against the slider you can't get the foldout open. I clipped the coffee table myself the first night I unfolded that thing--and I'm very cautious with furniture. It only stands to reason that if you have 2 adults and 2 kids trying to move around in there, moving chairs at the table and folding and unfolding the bed, the furniture is going to take a beating and the walls are going to get dinged up

It is really bad. I have friends that work there. They said the damage is beyond description at times. Many of the small tables in the 2nd bedroom have had to be replaced due to someone taking a knife to them and carving graffitti in them. Our last visit we did not even have a table in the 2nd bedroom as they had none left to replace it and had to order more.

Everything that is not tied down as been stolen at some point. I would be glad to be part of an inventory system with the damages being charged to the guest that just checked out. However this is a time consuming process and rooms would definitely not be ready until 4pm as they are at all other Time Share resorts.

Currenty Disney does not charge guests for damages. Maybe this needs to be changed.

It is members as much as paying guests. The damage at the Beach Club resort and Yacht Club is nothing compared to BCV.

I have my own theory as to why there is more damage, but lately when I share my personal opinions I get blasted, so I'll just say the majority of clientale, present company excluded, is a roudy bunch at the BCV.
