Our family checked into BCV Thursday evening- it was very painless and the CM at the desk was very helpful and nice. Since we had never stayed at BCV before it was a bit overwhelming finding our way around. (We have stayed at SSR so I will have to compare it to BCV)

We were in Studio 344. I really like the Florida style decorating in the rooms. Very light and bright. There were some minor - I emphasize MINOR problems. The table was chipped slighty on the edges, but that sort of added to the decor. The door under the sink near the microwave was also chipped on the edge. That should be touched up with some white paint. The air did not work as well as it should have. The temperature said the room was 74 degrees- but that was along shot. It felt closer to 80. After cranking it down to 71 it got much cooler.

My two biggest peeves were-
#1 - the toilet was not cleaned properly. When I went to help my DD with a bath I noticed black rings around the upper part of the toilet that are not noticeable when you are looking straight down at the toilet, but were quite obvious from the side, lower view. I ended up sanitizing and cleaning it myself (yes I am a freak- but I do bring stuff like that along just in case) the next person to get this room will get a clean toilet! I didn't feel like calling housekeeping- I just wasn't in complain mode because I know alot of CM's are still struggling getting there lives back together from all the storms and so are we.

#2 - we were going to Night of Joy- (a series of Christian concerts in the Magic Kingdom thurs-sat nite from 7:30pm- 12-30am)
We had pre-purchased our tickets (about $30 a piece)and I guess they had trouble selling Thursday evening so they were offering them to guests staying on site for only $12.95. I felt like someone who goes to a store and buys an item only to find the same store selling it the following week for half price. Big bummer. I did mention that to the CM but there wasn't anything they could do, I'll know better next year not to buy Thursday in advance-if they still have a Thursday night because I am assuming Disney lost money on that night because of the rain and lack of crowds. (Fri. and Sat. were sold out)

The parks were empty! Maybe the Hurricanes, maybe the kids back in school- but they were desolate. Friday we spent most of our day at Stormalong Bay and their was probably a total of 40 people swimming. One of the CM's said it had been like that for several days, especially after people left to go home after Francis. They were fixing or cleaning something with the sewer system underneath StormaLong Bay Friday. They had trucks with hoses either pumping something in or draining something out. It was kind of noisy in the kiddie part but you didn't notice in the rest of the pool. I did hear one guy screaming at a CM that he paid $400 a night to stay here and didn't appreciate having to look and hear the trucks working and they should have told people upon check in.

Now here comes my comparision of SSR and BCV.

I thought I really liked SSR and I still do, but now I am working with the money fairy to supply me with some resale points to BCV. I did like the interior hallways of BCV's vs SSR's and I like the lounges being closer to the actual buildings. SSR's quiet pool is nicer and I actually like SSR's pool slide better than SAB's, but the extra space to float along SAB beats SSR's. It's a toss up between DTD and the Boardwalk, but being close to Epcot is a plus for the BCV. My toilet was much cleaner at SSR, but that doesn't mean much since we stayed there opening week. We are going to try to stay at Wilderness Lodge in February so I will probably love that place as well. So many places- so few vacations.

We had to leave extra early today (Saturday) to get back to do some extra things before Ivan affects us. I would have liked to bum around SAB a little more, but that will have to wait for another trip.

By the way- even if you don't want to see any of the concerts during Night of Joy - it is a great opportunity to ride the rides for an extra 5 hours with absolutely NO waiting time. There was maybe a 5 minute wait Fri. on some rides but that was it. 95% of the rides were open. In between bands we wanted to see my DD had a blast zipping onto all her favorite rides. It's the only time we've never had to wait to ride Dumbo! If your child's a nite owl than this is the place for you!

Thanks for the review!
September after Labor Day is traditionally a very slow time, perhaps the slowest of the year, even without hurricanes!

PS: Could you put in a good word for me with the money fairy too?

DVC makes it hard to choose just one resort! Love BCV and SAB. That's a vacation in itself!

Did you get to B&C at all? I haven't been to SSR yet, love BCV, so I appreciated your comparison. Do you remember any thing about your view from the BCV studio? Thanks.

Did you see any good performers at NofJ???? We used to live in Jacksonville and I know that church youth groups from around the state usually go for the Friday and Saturday shows. We pretty much only listen to Christian contemporary and Disney music so we would love to attend NofJ, however, now that we live so far away, and do not like the kids to miss school, I don't know how we could ever make it. If it was in the summer maybe, but not at the current time of year. Also, the hurricanes must have hurt attendance this year. Glad you had fun!!! We own at BCV and were there last March for Spring Break. We will be at OKW next month for a long weekend. Thanks for the report......Lacee

Thanks for the review and information on Night of Joy. We have wanted to go to Night of Joy for years but my wife is a teacher and getting any time off at the very beginning of the school year is not possible. Some day I hope!

Were the Thursday concerts inside or out? My husband I and were there and I really wanted to take advantage of the discounted tickets (we would have had to pay $13.95), but with the impending rain and it being our last night we decided not to.

We had the "no line" experience all week long and it was wonderful. We felt a little guilty going on vacation when so much of Florida is damaged, but rationalized that we were putting money back into the local economy.

We left Atlanta at 7:30 am Monday morning and drove through Frances to get to WDW...that part was horrible! Port Orleans was great, though, and no waiting for the rides was even better. We rode Tower of Terror twice in less than 15 minutes! I highly recommend going Labor Day week.

This experience, combined with our tour of SSR and everything I'm reading here is making me certain that we want to buy in. Now it's just a matter of making the call and figuring out how we are going to pay for it. Good thing we don't have to do that til May '05!

Thanks for the report about your trip. Sounds like you and your family had a great time!:)

Thanks for the report - glad you liked BCV!

( to the guy complaining at the pool.............)

We did not get to B&C. Our view out of our studio wasn't so great. Just the back road and a little grassy area were our view. We weren't in our room that much so it wasn't a big deal.

There was one indoor stage area at the Galaxy cafe to watch several performers. Thursday night it was 4Him (an awesome group that sounds better in person than on the radio) and Across The Sky (did not see as we spent time in the rain watching Michael W. Smith at the Castle stage) Out of all the performances we saw, Michael W. Smith sounded like he was getting over a cold, but he did perform some of his new album due out in October and the songs were awesome. It will definately be worth picking up.

They had another stage in Tommorrowland beyond Buzz Lightyear. We watched Mark Schultz perform Thursday and Rebecca St. James perform there Friday. This was the only location that had seast where you could actually sit down. Mark Schultz was incredible. Then they had a stage Frontierland/Adventureland right to the side of the flume ride. We only saw a little bit of SONICFLOOD perform there Friday. (sounded great)

Our highlight was watching Third Day perform Friday night at the castle. They also sounded better live than on the radio. It capped off a great night.

We would have liked to have gone Saturday to see Kirk Franklin, but couldn't swing it.

We have 4HIM at our Starlight Crusade every year and they are awesome. They are also a great group of guys....very down-to-earth and friendly. We had Sonic Flood at our church too and they were the same way...my husband spent the day with them and had a blast. It's good to know they walk the talk.

Glad you had a good time....hopefully we'll be joining you next year as DVCer's!
