We (7 of us--4 adults, 2 kids, 1 teenager) just returned (3/26) from 6 days at the BCV (2BR)--our first time at a Disney resort. We had stayed previously at Hilton Head and were not impressed and were somewhat apprehensive about BCV. But we were pleasantly surprised.
While the weather was not particularly warm, the atmosphere of the staff at the BCV was. I heard "welcome home" several times and for the most part the staff was quite helpful. There were a few glitches: the phone was dead in one room; the DVD didn't work and the toilet didn't flush in one bathroom. Except for the toilet, however, the maintenance staff was quick to respond and fix the problem. The toilet required several calls and threats to contact supervisors, when it finally got fixed.
The Hoop-de-doo was good and we ate at the Clambake in the Cape May restaurant one evening, which was pretty good also. We especially liked the fact that we were only a 5-7 minute walk from Epcot and a short boat ride from MGM. This was really helpful for the "Illuminations" at Epcot and avoiding the usual crowds trying to escape through the front of the park at closing time.
The Stormalong Bay pools were nice, but we also enjoyed the quiet pools/hot tubs since they were closer to our room (#442). We could see the "Epcot" sign outside our window and some of the fireworks from the Illuminations. We were surprised by how quiet the rooms were. After having the Olympic jumping team stay in the room above us at Hilton Head, we weren't sure how well we would sleep, but the rooms seemed to be quite well insulated and very quiet.
Since there were 7 of us, we took the advice of others posting on this board in regard to transportation between the airport and Disney, by using Florida Tours. We chose the 10 passenger van and there was just enough room for us, luggage, and groceries for a week. The driver was prompt, courteous, and very understanding. On our return trip, we found the same to be true. We definitely prefer this means of transportation to using Mears Shuttle, where we had to handle all the luggage and fight with drivers and other passengers, as well as waiting while everybody else is dropped off. We really recommend Florida Tours!!
The only difficulties we had were with Disney and making reservations for dining. Every time I called I got a different answer about how to get seating. It seems that the left hand knoweth not what the right one is doing.
But overall, it was an excellent, stress-free trip, and we are looking forward to returning next year.

I'm glad you had a nice time! Thanks for posting.

Thank you for taking the time to share your trip report with us. I am glad to read that you called housekeeping/engineering to take care of the "glitches." Is the next DVC trip planned yet :)?

Thanks for the report-On your next trip you may want to call ahead to make reservations for your dinning needs. Reservations(priorty seating) can usually be made 90 days in advance, there are a few exceptions. You can call MS to do it, no need to call WDW-DINE, it is part of being a member of DVC.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing!!!

Gee, we were there at the same time! Came back Fri. 3/26. It was out first use of BCV at we loved them. The easy walk to Epcot makes a BIG difference.

You're right it was a bit chilly, but still enjoyed the water parks and of course the quiet pool, (though I admit we made it a bit 'unquiet with our Marco Polo and Tag games  )

We had priority seating at Cape May Cafe that we missed. How was it? DW doesn't like fish and we were concernced with finding choices for the kids. Should we eat there next time?

Glad you enjoyed it.

Thanx for the report. I am happy to read that you enjoyed your trip!

Oh, and WELCOME to the DIS Boards!

Pa is correct. In fact, on my last trip down this past December, I wanted to get the family in to a character dinner at Crystal Palace in MK. The WDW Dine number told me that they had no PS whatsoever. Just by chance I called MS, and they were able to get us in.

Great report! We have only been to BCV once for a short trip in a studio, so we have not realized its true potential. I love to read great reports about it (we own there).

TW1, cape may is great. I am not a big fish eater and I found lots of other great foods - marinated chicken, awesome mashed potatoes, prime rib or roast beef (not sure which), different pasta dishes, plus a whole kids station with I think pizza, chicken strips, french fries, etc.

Thanks for the report, 2bears, and welcome to the DIS. If you don't mind my asking, what did you think of the bus transportation? We did an awful lot of standing when we were there in December, and I was hoping it had improved.

Pat

206 days and counting . . . again!

I was there that same week also and returned home the 26th, Had 1BR (310). I agree the weather was a little chillier than expected but it didn't stop the grand kids from spending a lot of time in both SAB and quiet pool. It was nice walking around the park weather though. Parks were a lot more crowded than expected also. Room was right above the spa, which seemed to be getting a lot of use because of the cool temp, saw people in it as late as 1:30am one night. No problems at all with the room everything seemed to be working, the woodwork and furniture is beginning to show a little wear and tear, but I guess that is to be expected considering the amount of use it gets. This trip was my 6th stay at BCV, first trip was only a month after it opened so I can see the wear and tear taking place.
I have done Cape May Cafe several times for both the breakfast and Clam bake, last time in Feb. and thought that the quality of the food has slipped a little, Especially the Clam Bake, hopefully it was just that one time. Going back May 1st, I'll try it again.
We always have a rental car so rarely use the buses, But my DIL used it one day to take the kids to Typhoon Lagoon and said it took nearly an hour to get there.

Glad you enjoyed your first stay, and will have many more just as good.

I have also stayed at Disney's Hilton Head Resort in a 2 Bedroom and will be staying at BCV this summer for the first time, also in a 2 Bedroom. How would you compare the rooms? Thank you, Rex

Thanks for the report. I was especially interested in your opinions of FL Tours, as we will be using them for the first time this October. We had a not-so-great expereince with Your Ride car service on our last trip, so I am glad to read your positive review of FL Tours.

In answer to some of your questions and remarks:
Reservations: I had called about 6 weeks prior to the visit to request dining reservations. At that time I asked if they could tell me the approximate location of the table. I was told that I could call within 7 days of arrival and they could tell me that information. I called 2 days before arrival and was told that seating would be made when I picked up the tickets at Fort Wilderness (for Hoopdedoo). The morning of the reservation, I asked at the front desk about directions to get to Ft. Wilderness and the clerk said I could pick up the tickets there and the location would be determined at that time. I was a little irate at that point, because I would have picked them up when I arrived to get better seating, if I had known. When we went to Ft. Wilderness, the ticket taker told me that the location is determined by when you make the original reservation, which must have been true, because we had fantastic seats--table on the floor in the dead center of the place. We actually had to move over so that the actors could do part of the act. So I got lots of different answers to the same question, but ultimately, it worked out all right.
Hilton Head Rooms vs. Beach Club room: To me there is no contest. Beach club is far superior. We really didn't like Hilton Head--the dark decor and located in the middle of the woods. Giant pine trees blocked any kind of view there might have been, which there really wasn't much anyway, just a marsh. It was such a long drive (well over a mile) and not very well marked to get to the beach. We went over Thanksgiving and (I have to tell the truth) we were bored stiff.
Bus transportation: We really had no problem with buses. We used the boat, of course, to get to MGM and they were a bit slow between Downtown Disney and BCV, but nothing we were hassled over. Being able to walk to Epcot is a major point; helps in avoiding crowds. My son did say that Magic Kingdom was crazy in the afternoons, so we basically took advantage of the early morning openings for resort quests, came back for lunch, napped or went to the pool, and went back in the evening. The buses weren't a problem for us.
Cape May Cafe: Since we had priority seating arranged, there was no problem getting in. Unlike Al Roker and his family who was behind us in line and was apparently upset that they couldn't just walk in. The food quality was about what I would expect for a buffet; a little better than Golden Corral I suppose. The shrimp were good, but the ribs were identical to the Hoopdedoo--somewhat tough. They have a nice feature with paper on the tables instead of cloths and crayons for the kids to draw on the paper, but my grandkids (3 and 7) weren't interested except to eat pizza. I could have fixed them a frozen pizza in the room and they probably would have enjoyed it more and it would have been much cheaper for me. The service from the waittress was fantastic however. I wasn't sure how much to tip for a buffet, however; she basically just removed plates.
Pool: That was probably my crowd in the hot tub at 1:30 a.m. My daughter and the babysitter we brought with us loved to go down after the kids (and the old folks) had gone off to sleep.
FL Tours: We really did like the service. However, on the retun trip the van was really packed tight to get everything in and the DVD player didn't work. But overall, we thought it was a great improvement over Mears.
We have been going to DW off and on since 1976, so we are pretty familiar with the procedures. This was our first DVC however, and that turned out to be quite nice, possibly the best visit we've had.

Thanks - I have just made my 1st reservation with our DVC membership for our upcoming trip in October to BCV. We have only heard good things about BCV and your review was a great help.

Very different decor of course. Beach Club being very light colors, light furniture keeping with the Beach theme. Hilton Head decor is lowlands fishing lodge decor. Both very nice just different. The decor at HH reminds me of Wilderness Lodge.

The Villas at HH are larger than BC. Also all 2 bedroom dedicateds at HH have 2 queen beds in the second bedroom. This is not the case at BCV with many of the 2 bedrooms having a sofa sleeper and one bed in the extra bedroom.

The bathrooms are similar, the kitchen, dining and living area at BC is much smaller.

At BC the laundry is in the hall right off the Master Bedroom and almost in the dining room area. Not as convenient as the area for the laundry at HH.

There is less closest space in the master bedroom at BC than HH.

HH has very nice porch furniture, BC has the small standard plastic ones.

BC units are very nice and I like the decor but they are smaller.

Glad to hear you enjoyed. We've been at the BCV several times, and have always had a great experience!
