There's a thread on the Resorts board re: the rehabbing going on at the YC/BC and the BCV. A poster says he/she is a CM there and said this:

They are starting the Villas in Oct, but it will not be completed until Feb '09. Not sure what it will look like, but it may be noisy while you are there during the day. Depend upon the dates you will be there. But hey, that is the price we pay for new and improved, so please be patient. I know this is the most magical place on earth, but even we can't do rehab with no noise.

Anyone else heard this?

OK, dh and I (well, really dh, but I sat here listening & adding info) just got off a half-hour long call with MS.

First they had us on hold and came back and said BC said no renovations are happening. We disputed that because there are people posting on the resorts board describing the new rooms. They put us back on hold again and came back saying they'd called Disney Engineering, and lo and behold ( ) there was going to be a soft goods rehab (including carpeting) at BCV this fall/winter.

The MS rep said that DE promised no work would be done from Dec. 20 'til Jan. 4th to not inconvenience the holiday travelers.

All this being said, why can't Disney just get their act together, and why on earth wouldn't the hotel admit that there are renovations being done? :headache:

My concern is my son and I have breathing problems and if there are all kinds of "new carpet" and paint fumes, it would be a problem for us. Has anyone with asthma/RAD had any experience staying at one of the DVCs after a soft goods rehab?

Hall carpets were done last year so they must now be doing the rooms.

What is the track record for renovations at DVC resorts? do they change the decor at all or is it just replacements?

I wouldn't be surprised if there are flat screen TVs since that is what the deluxe resorts are doing. And then maybe different armoires to hold them?

What's everyone's guess?

I'm betting it's room carpeting and TVs as well, dare we hope for new furniture, drapes and bedspreads too?

I'm dying to see the pics of the new rooms over on the hotel side too. My cousin stays over there and I know she'll be excited to find out the BC is getting new stuff. Maybe it will be done for her when we arrive at the end of September.

This is so exciting! Hopefully it will be similar to CR and Poly updates! I can't wait to see what they have planned!

They won't change the decor. It doesn't noticably change from what they originally put in (well, OKW doesn't have colored towels any longer).

(We can always hope they will swap out the uglist shower curtain in the world at BWV, but it hasn't happened yet.)

I hope they are including facilities like the just announced "Bay Lake Tower Finish Kitchen" at BLT or the Wave at the Contemporary, Gasparilla Grill at the Grand Floridian, or Kona Café at the Polynesian. It would be nice to have a legitimate take out like many of the other resorts.:thumbsup2

We have a 1 bedroom at BCV booked for Nov 9-14. I wonder how this will affect us? We were already thinking of switching to Jan because of Nov airfares being so high. This might make my decision easier.

Thanks for the track record. I love the decor now (other than the couch in the LR) but was just wondering.

It sounds like this is just in the rooms of Y&BC/BCV. The Wave and Kona Cafe aren't carryout restaurants either. But maybe you meant Captain Cook's and whatever the counter service is at the CR. I wish there were more options at the Y&BC/BCV too. What I miss most is being able to order a sandwich or burger at Crew's Cup.

Since it's just a soft rehab, I wouldn't think it will cause much disruption at all. They will probably do a floor or wing at a time. We'll be there in Oct., Jan, March and May and I'm not switching resorts!!!! I imagine it will affect availability somewhat though.

I could be wrong, but Disney puts a lot of effort into designing those rooms and designs them to be timeless. I don't think they've ever redone the rooms at OKW, and its a lot older than BCVs. (The shower curtain at BWV is worse, but that couch is ugly at BCV).

They just replaced the sofa sleepers and mattresses last year at BCV. Plus they are constantly painting.

The Crew's Club was the place we could always depend upon. We sat in there many of nights for a brew and a burger. It was the best place for that type of evening. We didn’t find out that the burgers were discontinued until we went in and tried to order in February ’07. Haven’t found anything like the Crew’s Club since.

:goodvibes

It's SOOOOOOOOO ugly... How Ugly is it... It's so Ugly it would give Freddy Kreuger Nightmares :lmao:

Good to hear about the Rehab... we are staying there in March, and I hope we get a newly redone room
