BCV refused us valet parking...right or wrong?

We were staying at OKW, having dinner at Yachtman. We tried to use our DVC card for free valet, but the valet captain said it was only free if were were staying at the resort.

True or not? The valet was nice, but the captain was a major jerk about it.

You did park at the Beach Club, I am sure.

Did you tell them you were going to the Yachtsman's. Shouldn't have made any difference but maybe they thought since you were not dining at the Beach Club. :confused3

We always use the Disney Dining Card for free parking--as opposed to the DCV card. But I've always thought that if you go to a resort that has a DVC attached to it, you can get free valet parking. If it has changed, I wasn't aware of it.

Did you try to valet at the Yacht Club? It's just free at the Beach Club.

We have used valet many times at Beach Club when we haven't been staying there for dinner, shopping, etc.

We presented our DVC card when we dropped the vehicle off and were not charged or denied. We also always tip upon dropping off and picking up the vehicle. We did this as recently as last December with no problem.

From the DVC members website - member perks:

Valet Parking at the Walt Disney World Resort

Valet parking is complimentary at Disney's BoardWalk Resort, Disney's Wilderness Lodge, and Disney's Beach Club Resort. Just show your Disney Vacation Club Member ID Card. Complimentary valet parking is not available at other valet parking operations or for Theme Park access.

You'll be charged the daily fee of $10.00 for this service at any other valet parking operation at the Walt Disney World Resort. Once you've paid for the valet service, you'll receive unlimited valet parking for the remainder of the day. Whether or not you are charged to valet park, gratuities are still appropriate. There will be no charge for Guests with disabilities who have the proper permits.

This is my thought as well. Had you said Cape May Cafe you probably wouldn't have had a problem. YSH, seems to me, would be a "Yacht Club" valet parking location..:goodvibes

We valet parked there just a few days ago with no charge.

Perhaps the new outside agency valet's have arrived at the Beach Club and some of their employees are not familiar with the DVC rules in regards to valet parking.

We were at the BCV's in January and talked to many long time valet's and bellmen and all were leaving the resort, some where getting other jobs inside Disney, some were simply moving on.

It's a huge mistakes on Disney's part, imo, to outsource these positions. It is the first person most people see upon arrival and if they don't have Disney training it can impact a guests first impression of the resort and company. Also, they are allowing an outsourced agencies employees to have access to guest rooms via pass keys. I just hope the agency handling this has done thorough background checks and that all the new people on property are legal.....AND they don't have criminal backgrounds.

Something to ponder.

Yes! This is what we did wrong.....thanks. (To me, they are kind of all the same resort, but not to WDW...)

Do you have a DDE card? DDE card holders get free valet parking at any WDW resort when dining there. I know it's too late now but thought I would mention it for next time, or for anyone else reading this thread.

Yes. I do. Good to know for next time!

Thanks for at least admitting, many wouldn't. :thumbsup2

Others might not know this too. So it's a good learning situation, but no; Yacht Club is not included even if you are staying at the BCV so the Bell Captain was wrong about that part too.

Just be sure to use your DDE card next time and your set to go.

At this time no outsourced workers are doing anything but parking and unloading cars. They are working valet, not taking luggage to the rooms.

But even if they were, why are you so sure they are any less trustworthy than any Disney employee. Have you had personal experience with this company that would give you that impression.

Believe me just because someone works for Disney, does not make them immune to crime.

The valet captain was still wrong if he said it was free to guests staying at the resort. ;)

We tried to valet once at BWV while we were at Fort Wilderness...

The valet politely explained the rules when we tried.. He recognized us from our many previous trips though, and parked the car anyways.. :cool1:

The $5 I tipped him couldn't have hurt either..

That's not tracking - as DVC members, you should have gotten complimentary valet parking at BWV regardless of where you were staying.

I've gotten complimentary parking at both BWV and BCV with DVC card without any question of whether I was actually staying at the resort.

In fact, when I use my DDE card elsewhere, I'm never even asked for verification of whether I'm actually dining there.

I agree that the outsourcing is something that should always be carefully considered, but there is absolutely no reason to suppose that an outside contractor would give any less than Disney standards. For instance, Mears does a fantastic job of representing Disney for the DME - I've see no difference in quality between a DME (Mears) driver and a Disney bus driver (well, except for fewer wild rumors being traded by the Mears drivers!).

If the contractor couldn't provide what Disney expected, they wouldn't get the job.

Erroneous facts aside, how do you know Disney employees don't have criminal backgrounds? And even if they don't, so what? After all, the character CM arrested on child-porn charges was clean as a whistle legally before the arrest. . .
