If I am a BCV member, but staying at another resort, can I show my card and use Stormalong?

Your home resort doesn't matter for pool hopping. It's where you are actually staying on that trip. And if you are not staying on points, you can't pool hop then, either. And don't forget about the blackout period around holidays.

When it's busy, they check your room key. If you try to sneak in and get caught, they hang you from the mast of the ship wreck. :rotfl2:

I have never pool hopped...mostly because I am too lazy...but just curious...do many people do this?

2 weeks ago I was riding the bus with a family on my way back to Boardwalk...they were heading there from POR to use the BW pool...I thought it was odd..

Back when you could still hop to SAB and my son was younger, we would drive over to the BC on every trip so my husband and son could swim at SAB. We always drive, so we have a car to go where we want to go. We've hopped over to WL a few times, but those were probably the only two we did.

We are amazed at how many families are pool crazy. We have over heard several discussions where the kids would rather go to the pool instead of the parks. I guess I'm just not a pool guy. Could be because we used to have one and I got stuck cleaning it. :rotfl2:

What those people were doing was a no-no - unless they were using points for their POR stay. DVC members can hop, when staying on points to any pool except those at the Y&BC and AKL and except during black out periods. But you can't hop as a regular hotel guests. I suspect less do now than used to - at one time it was an onsite perk to use other hotel's pools and some people don't know they aren't supposed to (others know and don't care.)

A minority of DVC members hop a lot. I'm not sure how many "have hopped." For pool crazy kids, or people spending a lot of time at WDW who are commando'd out - they may not even be doing the parks this trip - hopping is a nice perk. We did it for the first time last trip - and it was kind of a pain, but at the same time, I might do it again if the circumstances are right.

We've pool hopped to SAB (when it was legal before BCV opened), POFQ, POR (when it was Dixie Landings), WL, Poly, and CR. We always go in July and we love swimming. We have started our mornings at one park, taken a midday break at the pool of a nearby resort, then continued on to another park after showering at the resort we pool hopped to. We have our own pool at home, but it doesn't stop us from swimming at the resorts. We hop less since the kids are now teens, but DW and I still may once in a while.

I guess if we had a car we would maybe try it...but the thought of packing up all the children...and all their stuff to go to another pool overwhelms me

You're right, crisi. But I thought you had to be staying at a DVC resort on points to poolhop. I didn't think using points at non-DVC resorts counted. I know when we stayed at CR once using points, we weren't allowed to pool hop.

That's possible. I wasn't sure and was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Pool hoping while staying on points at a non-DVC resort is not allowed. Only DVC Members and their Guests staying at DVC resorts may pool hop. Hoping to Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts or at the quiet pools of these two Resort hotels is not allowed.

In January with almost no one at SAB, we had to show room key and get a wristband.
They seem very strict about it. I was expecting more from SAB than it was. Don't get me wrong, it is very nice.

We hopped to CSR a couple of times on check out day when they still had the Q&C dining certificates. We swam, laid in the sun and ate at the Pepper Market before heading to the airport. We also hopped to SAB back in the days when it was allowed if you were at another resort but mostly now just enjoy the quiet pool at whatever resort we are staying at.

One of the last trips to BCV I happened to notice two young women sitting on lounge chairs by the SAB pool with beverages in hand. They were talking rather loudly so it wasn't hard to hear that they were very unhappy about not being allowed to swim there - after all they had paid to stay at Disney and should be allowed to use any pool they wanted not just the AS resort they were at. I was actually surprised they were allowed to take up space on the lounge chairs but then it really wasn't all that busy that day so maybe the lifeguard figured it was the lesser of two evils rather than making them leave and having a scene.

Well there goes my bussing business idea of picking people up at the different DVC resorts to take them on the pool hopping tour. I could see millions and retire to just my little old business. :rotfl2:

Sorry, I don't see why people would want to pool hop. Hop in a pool yes, but to go resort to resort is a pain in the BEEEEEEP. We are looking at adding on at BCV just for SAB.

This what my DS8 wants to do!!! He loves the pool - hence my post!! that's why this last trip he stayed home so DH and I could go play!!

Once upon a time, it was encouraged for guests at the MK to swim at the pools. This was way back when WDW first opened.

We hopped all the time to SAB back when it was allowed.
