BCV Dues, passes and MB questions

Well as we get nearer and nearer to reaching a decision on our possible DVC purchase, yet more questions spring to mind, of course I'm turning to the experts if you all don't mind again.

1) How are the dues paid? Monthly, annually or other? And we're assuming that the first years dues AREN'T included in your initial payment - is this right? Also if we use MB would we still pay dues on those points that we'd given up?

2) Is it compulsary to purchase an UPH for the entire length of your stay, for example could we buy a 7 day pass for a 14 day stay and use the second week to chill out round the pool, go offsite etc?

3) Another MB question, if we choose this option and give up 2003 points, can we still go away borrowing from 2004 or are you not allowed to borrow in you first year?

4) Anyone know what the dues are on 250 points at the BCV?

Thanks once again for your very valuable help.

Dues at BCV are currently $3.77 per point (they actually carry it out to 4 decimal points but that's the rounded figure given here).

The dues bill is sent out around Christmas every year and is due by mid-January. You have the option of paying in a lump sum (can put on a credit card) or having them deduct it automatically every month from a bank account. They do not charge any interest if you go for the monthly payments.

You would be responsible for a pro-rated amount of dues for this year. And you would have to pay dues on any points you turn back for MB.

UPH's must be bought for the entire length of stay. You can usually shave a day or two off but not a whole week. Once you join DVC and will be coming to WDW regularly you should think about purchasing APs or park hopper passes that give you days that never expire. We get no discount on those from DVC but with a Disney Club or AAA discount they may work out better for you.

If you purchase now, you would get points that are good for your Use Year month 2002-the end of the preceeding month 2003. I'll use an April Use Year for example. You turn back your 2002-2003 points. You get points in April 2003 that are good for April 2003-March 2004. If you need additional points, you could borrow from your next allotment. If you want to travel prior to April 2003, you could borrow those points as well.

Pam did an excellent job of answering your questions, so I just want to mention that your use year might be of some importance, depending on whether you are planning on using Magical Beginnings, and when you are planning on using your points. I bought my pts with a February use year (purchased in Nov), turned back my pts for Magical Beginnings, and got my next allotment of pts 3 months later. I would suggest sitting and considering when you are planning to use your pts before you buy anything. Also remember that when I bought a Feb use year in Nov. I had no choice about turning my pts back in, since I couldn''t use them before Feb, and the rules are that I wouldn't have been able to bank them so late in the year. Try to plan ahead so that you get the biggest bang for your buck, and you are not giving Disney a whole year's pts in the same year that you want to vacation for the first time.

Thanks Cruella & Pam,

Really useful info, we're getting so close now and it's all starting to make sense too! We had it all wrong and thought that if we purchased now direct from Disney our first points would be from Feb 2003-Jan2004, didn't think we'd get any from 02-03! d'oh, got that one wrong didn't we - much to our delight!

We're planning on taking our first trip at the end of May 03 (availability allowing) so this way we really loose nothing by handing back our 02-03 points.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. :D

One more thing to rememeber. When you buy The instant you say YES, dues start. So try to buy late in the year, We bought in Oct of last year (an add on), and paid only 2 months of dues. For instacance, you buy Oct 31, and owe 2 months. Say at BWV for yuks 4$/pt. 150 pts x 4=600 dollars per yr dues due. You say YES on Oct 31 you owe 100 dollars on dues, if you bought July 31 of this year, you would owe 300 dollars on dues, (6 months of dues).
Hope this helps!

P.S. I don't know why they do this, I guess because you can book as soon as you say YES!
Seems like they would do this when you CLOSE, that would make more sense!

Are you sure of this? I really thought that if I purchased in November but had a February use year that I would owe dues from February until the end of the year, regardless of when I purchased. If what you have is accurate, it would change my way of purchasing an add-on.

It's been awhile, but I think Deerh is correct. Dues are based on the calendar year, not the Use Year.

Yes, I am sure. Call your guide to make sure, but it is based on the calender year, use year has nothing to do with it.
It CAN AND DOES make a BIG difference as timing is everything, esp. with dues. Don't buy now and sell back the points, I would keep them, HOWEVER, in Oct, sell them back as you are only out 100 dollars in my example. That is of course imho! But good luck in your decision, and let us know!!

I just closed on BCV. Based on what I understand, the use year does make a difference with BCV only:

I have a December use year, for 2002:
For BCV, my dues will be 1/12th of the $3.77/point;

however, for VB and HH (I am in the process of closing), the dues start from the date of the contract (not sure how they choose the date) on your package.

I hope this will help.

I am positive that dues start from the the day you purchase (approx), not back to the beginning of your use year.

Are you sure it is a Feb use year? That may not make sense, as you may not be able to get MB. It is my belief that you must be within your 50% banking window to take advantage of MB (I'm sure it was this way for VB, but it may be different for BCV).

Good Luck!

We are still within the banking deadline for February points. The 100% deadline is end of July (hurry). I think the 50% deadline would be end of Oct, so there should still be plenty of time to bank at least 50% (unless I'm missing something here).
