We will be taking our DS' (7 and 9) to WDW for the first time for a week after Thanksgiving! We will be staying at BCV.

One of my fondest memories as a child was that first ride on the monorail in '74 through the CR and that view of MK as we headed to the station. I'd like them to have that experience as well but would like to skip the TTC.

Would it be feasible/advised to take a cab to the Poly or GF and pick up the resort mono for this? Which of the 2 would be best and what time should we be there to make RD? We have an ADR at CG that evening to view the MVMCP fireworks and will be taking a cab back to BCV anyway so the DW and I can enjoy a bottle of wine.

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

(first post btw, and I can't tell you how helpful all of you have already been on all of the posts I've been reading.....:))

You won't go thru the CR on the way to MK. The CR is the stop after MK. It doesn't matter where you get on.

Thanks! you can tell it's been awhile ('95 or so) since I've been. So, we could get the monorail at CR in order to give the boys a ride around the lagoon and the other resorts for their first time? What time should I grab the cab at the BC for CR in order to make RD?

And please don't hesitate to tell me this makes no sense and just cab it to TTC instead....

I would cab it to the TTC and take the express monorail because then they will get the full effect of going through the Contemporary. The express monorail goes the opposite way (TTC - through the Contemporary (no stop) - MK). It would be faster than stopping at all the resorts.

Thanks- this is very helpful. I've spent the past 15 years logging 150,000-200,000 air miles for work each year so have spent WAY too much time queuing up for rental car buses, airport/hotel shuttles, etc. So that's why I'm trying to avoid the buses as much as possible by driving to WDW, staying at an Epcot Resort/DHS resort, but still give the kids that "monorail experience".

I have another idea, if you're interested.

If you're just looking to "ride the monorail," you could do so after a day at Epcot (since I'm guessing you'll be walking to Epcot based on your resort).

You could take the Epcot monorail up to the TTC and then hop the resort or express monorail and ride around a little bit. Then hop on a MK bus and head back to your resort!

For monorail enjoyment purposes, the trip from the TTC to Epcot is the best, because the monorail actually enters Epcot and makes a loop around Spaceship Earth before you debark at the station, from where it heads back to the TTC.

But through the Contemporary is pretty cool too. I guess I forgot about the express version that goes the opposite way - for some reason, I thought it went in the same direction as the Resorts monorail.
