Hello-
This is my first post to this forum. I usually am over at DCL forum. My family and I are looking at doing WDW in January 2006 for the marathon. We are looking at staying at Beach Club Villas and would need a 2BR.

I just read a post this morning that mentioned renting someone elses DVC points, but being brand new to this I have no idea how it all works and have many questions.

My 1st is: Can a non DVC member rent points from a DVC member?

2nd: How does that work?

3rd: About how many points would a 2BR at the BCV be?

4th: Do you have to use all points or can you split the cost of the room reservation by using some points and should some other method (like credit card) for the remainder?

I was told by reservation CM yesterday that DVC doesn't release room availability for non DVC members until about the 6 month out mark.

5th: If using some or all DVC points, does that mean we can make reservations earlier than 6 months?

I think that's it for now.

Any help from you experienced DIS members is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

yes, you can rent from a member. check out the rent trade board here.

2nd: How does that work?
You rent from a member and pay aproximately $10 per point. The point charts are available on this site for all size units.

3rd: About how many points would a 2BR at the BCV be?Depends on how long you are staying. If you need a whole week, it will be 270 points.

4th: Do you have to use all points or can you split the cost of the room reservation by using some points and should some other method (like credit card) for the remainder? No, points reservations and paid reservations come from different inventories.

I was told by reservation CM yesterday that DVC doesn't release room availability for non DVC members until about the 6 month out mark.Actually, there should always be some inventory available for rental from Disney directly, since they retain a 4% ownership of the units. There are more released to the public in the last 60 days of each use year.

5th: If using some or all DVC points, does that mean we can make reservations earlier than 6 months?Yes, you can make points reservations up to 11 months before travel if you rent from a person who is a home member at BCV.

I think that's it for now.

I hope this helps!

You don't actually rent points, you rent a reservatoin made with points by the DVC member. The member always has total control of the reservation...there is trust involved for both parties in a rental transaction.

You can not mix point ressies and cash ressies through CRO. What you can do, is have the DVC member reserve some days on points, and you can reserve some days on cash. But you would also have to check-out and in for each change between points and cash, and there is a high probability that you would also have to move from one room to another.

Be sure to read all three of the "Sticky" threads at the top of the Rent/Trade Forum before you begin.

Best wishes -
