Are the 2 BR's at BCV dedicated or are they just a 1 BR and Studio adjoining? We normally stay in a 1 BR but we are going to get a 2 BR so that another family can stay with us for part of our trip. Once they leave we will only need a 1 BR, so can the hotel staff just lock off the adjoining studio so we won't have to change villas? :confused3

BCV has both lockoff's and dedicated 2 BR units. Unlike the other DVC resorts, only about a third of the dedicated 2 BR units have 2 queen beds in the second. The other 2/3 have a queen and pullout queen due to a mixup in planning and building.

In your situation, you're better off with a lockoff which can be reserved directly if available. You can ask to keep the portion once you're friends leave but this cannot be guaranteed and you'll have to check back in again on the change over day. Make sure you place request for the same room and remind them when you check in initially and again on the change over day.

We were able to do this at OKW, but in reverse. We arrived in a one bedroom and moved up to a two bedroom. But we had to get it all arranged with MS first, then when we checked in, we had to arrange it with the front desk. Since we changed reservations, we had to check out and check back in again on the day we moved up to the two bedroom.

Make sure you request the lock off on your reservation. If BCV is like OKW, they try to give dedicated 2 bedrooms out first.

So when we "check out" and "check in" will we have to pack up our things? Hopefully not right if we get to keep the 1 BR part of the unit?

If you get to stay in the one bedroom portion, you won't have to move out and back in. You just go to the desk and do all the paperwork. Get new room keys, new parking pass, etc.

We've done this several times in one way or another. Never have we had to change rooms but we are aggressive and proactive in letting them know what's going on and that we don't want to move.

Oh good! I will certainly be proactive when I make the reservations and when we check in!

So since it will be different reservations does that mean we'll get housekeeping on check out/ check in day?

Technically yes but I think I've lost out on that every time we've done it. And since I generally don't want people in my unit when I'm not there, I would just as soon not get the extra housekeeping. The exception might be a cash room through CRO linked to a points reservation but in that case, you'd be guaranteed not to move units.
