BBC 4 - The Great British Holiday - Mon 26th Feb 9pm

How anyone can spend that much money on a holiday and travel in complete ignorance as to what is available at the other end is beyond me.

When we first visited Florida in 1996 we did just that. Apart from the one travel book that I bought before we left, we had no idea what to expect when we got there. There was no Dis to use and the net was only in its infancy. I'm surprised to this day that 4 women travelling on their own, totally clueless were not robbed or worse.

Mush easier now for people to get the info they need before travelling.

I think I may have worded that incorrectly Florence. 1996 doesn't seem that long ago does it and yet like you say internet info was not as readily available to people to do research on, however there was still the library and we have made a lot of use of their travel books and maps. I think I was trying to say people give the impression of going to a travel agents, booking the holiday and then forgetting about it till they get there.

We would be going to Florida a lot more ignorant than we will be due to the Disboards and other web sites but even just sending for the WDW holiday planner gives you a fair bit of info and contacting Orlando travel bureau is at least advisable if you don't have access to or knowledge on how to use the internet.

I can't believe no one else mentioned this - "Exhibtion Everest" :rotfl: Where's that then?! And calling AK Magic Kingdom, priceless :lmao: You'd think they would check their facts before presenting the information to the public!

I got really cross with them saying that Florida was a once in a lifetime too - if they had done some research on the internet they would see how many of us are repeat visitors.

ArielJasmine,
I absolutely agree 100% I've been going across the Atlantic since I was 4 years old! It took me 10 years to get my husband to go, but now he doesn't want to go anywhere else! So it just shows how poor My Travel's marketing strategies are!

I agree, I even laugh at people who come into my shop looking for 'once in a lifetime' holidays in Fl, just because we've all said it, yet we still keep going back

I must have misheard him, I actualy thought he said "execution everest" !

I thought the program was interesting, looking on it as a docmentary about MyTravel. Thank gawd ive never been to any of those "welcome meeting" type things, they looked dreadful.

I remember hearing them say it but never gave it a thought when I posted my opinions! There was plenty that was excrutiatingly(sp?) embarassing to watch.

I watched with interest. I went to Florida in 2005 with My Travel and will be going again with them in Sept (or will it be Thomas Cook then).

I didnt go to any welcome meetings (no need!). Im glad I didnt seeing the doc. There was no rep in our hotel, so didnt have to avoid him/her.

I had no problems with my trip, customer service was good and flights were good, hence I have booked again for Sept.

I like the convenience of booking everything in one places (even if I pay a little more), to have someone else do the work. I would be too nervous to do everthing myself and spend the whole time before I go worrying. I even book my tickets:) . I can then just pay for it, no more worries, just planning on the dis and getting excitedpixiedust: Once I arrive in my hotel it doesnt matter who I have booked with cos I do my own thing, but it is nice to have a telephone for a rep if you have a problem.

I do think MY Travel was shown in a bad light, but I have no problems with them, and their prices are very cheap, I'm no high maintenance lady but I do have standards and overall I have been very happy travelling with them.
