We are getting close to purchasing at BLT, and I'd like to see if anyone has the same concern regarding the 1 bedroom villa. We are a family of four, with two young children (1&4). From our tour, it looked like the kid's sleeping area would be connected to the kitchen (i.e. stove). As a result we've been considering the purchase with the assumption of getting a 2 bedroom. Are we being completely insane? Has anyone else ever had a similar concern? Any feedback from someone with a similar family situation that has stayed in a 1 bedroom would be enourmously appreciated.

We have two children now age 12 & 10. our home resort is BCV and we have been members since 2002 we have stayed in studios, one bedrooms & 2 bedrooms. Our sons love the one bedrooms. we use it as a living room until night time. no problems. Of course, they love 2 bedrooms because they either get their own room with a bed each or one takes that room & the other still sleeps on the pull out in the kitchen living room area. Buying enough points for a two bedroom will allow you have your kids families come together one day in the future with each having separate sleeping areas too.

Remember, too, that you could always add-on in the future when you decide you need the extra points. Even though BLT likely wouldn't be available for new sale by the time you were looking for an add-on contract, I'm sure you could find resale contracts by then, or you could add-on somewhere else and alternate which resorts you go to with banking/borrowing... tons of options.

We had the same concern (i.e., our DD being by herself in the living area while we were in the bedroom) but we actually went the other way and decided to stay in studios until she was a little bit older. I don't know that I would feel comfortable leaving my DD to her own devices, at least until she is a little bit older. Either way, good luck with your decision! :goodvibes

What do you do about the stove at home?

:) Bill

We will be at BLT with our 4 year old and 4 month old in December. I am not even giving the stove a second thought. DS knows not to touch the stove and would never do it in the dark while he was sleeping.

If you are really worried - you could take off the nobs during your stay, bring nob covers (is this what you do at home?), or put the kids in the master and you sleep in the living room.

Our daughter is 9 now. But I don't think we would have been concerned with the bed being in the same room as the kitchen. So either you're insane, we're too lax as parents, or we're both somewhere in the middle. :lmao:

We had no problems with the stove but the door to the balcony concerned me! We moved the big sleep chair in front of it so my ds couldn't get out there by himself. My ds wouldn't touch the stove but if your kids might you should bring safety covers for the knobs (I would also bring outlet covers). If your child is going to roam at night why is a two bedroom any better?

I haven't stayed at BLT yet but just went on to the member website and can see that the stoves are electric and the knobs are up on the panel part not above the oven door, just in case that helps!

I too will not be staying at BLT until July, but all other resorts have Greco beds in the rooms and I wouldn't think any different at BLT. I am sure that you could feel safe about the 1 year old would sleep Greco bed. I put my 5 year old in that for the last time last summer. He will be in the pull out couch with his brother (11) this year. The sheets are supplied and ready to go. You might just want to bring a light blanket. Good luck in your decision.

i'm like the pp who wasn't worried about the stove but about the balcony - so one of us has always slept in the same room w/the kids (usually me because i'm more cautious or neurotic as my husband tells me) - and they are now 19 / 17 / 4 - and it's wdw so they are going to be tired and won't even hear the tv when you get back to the room

We stayed there earlier this month in a one bedroom with our kids on the couch. The stove was not an issue and I don't think my DD could reach the knobs without climbing up on the counter (there are no chairs except the big one). I would hope that we would hear her if she was doing that while we were in the other room. There is a graco bed in the room. The pullout couch was better than BC or SS (I thought). We had a great time and the four of us fit nicely in the one bedroom.

Good luck with your decision. Enjoy your trips there - my kids are too tired to create much havoc.

FYI - we usually stay in a two bedroom. I can think of more potential dangers with my kids in a two bedroom with a bathroom and she could still get the stove. Yikes!

Just wanted to communicate my appreciation for everyone's feedback, it has has been very helpful. We are going to proceed under the assumption that we only need a 1 bedroom. We were at Disney for a week in early January, and they both slept like stones every night - and the older one has never been a night roamer at home (the baby is still in a crib). Knob covers and an open door should suffice.

Thanks again.
