Hi All, I have only ever used a digital camera that takes AA bateries, however I am really looking into getting a new camera and most of the ones I am looking at take the lithum batteries. I was just curious as to how many you usually take with you, because it would really stink to be at the park and have your camera power down because the battery died. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.:goodvibes

I guess it depends on the camera and varies even more depending on use, you know like FLASH and LCD screen.

I know that on my camera a fully charged battery(litium Ion for the 20d) has never even given me a low level warning at 700 shots.

That's exactly the reason that I ruled out all models with proprietary batteries when picking my new camera.

However, similar to having sets of AA's, I think the minimum number to have is three. One in the camera, one in the bag, and one more on the charger back in the room.

Unless the camera has *really* poor performance or you're taking flash pictures by the boatload, I can't imagine running down two fully-charged batteries in a single day.

I shoot a lot. I usually always have to batteries - one in the camera and one spare. That approach has never let me down. The LI batteries generally last a very, very long time between charges.

being more neurotic than mark, i always take 3, one in the camera and 2 in the bag, usually the one in camera gets me through the day...but I never know when a giant bird will swoop down and grab one so i am prepared if that happens to still have one in the camera and one in the bag.( i recharge as soon as i get home every time...girl scout and all....)

I, too, also carry only 2 batteries. I carry a 30D and they last a really long time. 1000+ shots. And, I have the LCD set for 4 seconds after each shot most of the time.

I just like to travel light. I'd hate to be weighed down by anything but the essentials.

Being really neurotic, I carry at least two extra batteries, sometimes even more depending on which lens I'm using. For some reason, using my 70-300 IS seems to drain the battery very quickly. Also, most of my batteries are getting old - many were purchased 4 years ago when I bought the first digital rebel (300D) - and they don't seem to hold a charge as long as they used to.
