Which do you prefer/want/have?

  • I have one, and I like it.

  • I have one, and I don't like it.

  • I don't have one, but I want one.

  • I don't have one, but I don't want one.

  • I like them, but it's not high on my priority purchase list.

  • I don't like them at all.

  • Battery Grip?! WTH?! :confused3

  • I want one but they don't make one for my camera

If you have or get a portrait grip, I would strongly suggest that you consider a hand strap to go with it. I love carrying my camera around with the hand strap. I find it to be much more comfortable than using a neck strap.

doesn't the hand strap make it a pain when switching to vertical mode..

I think that in the canon grips the ability to use AA's is also an added benifit, because in a pinch you could always use them, and you can get them a lot faster than recharging if something goes wrong.

I considered getting one for my Canon Rebel XT but the battery life is good enough that I really dont need it.

I purchased mine for my 20D for ease of shooting vertical and providing better grip while taking DD's gymnastics photos. I love it while shooting sports but take it off for most other photos just because of the weight and bulk carring it around.

The 3rd party battery grip I got for my Nikon D50 has an adaptor that will hold 6 AA batteries and power the camera. Nice extra feature to have. Though I still wish Nikon would have made one on their own for the D50.
