Bathroom spin-off

No one should ever be denied the use of a toilet. Ever.

It takes a special kind of terrible person to not let a worker in their home use the bathroom if needed. If you don't want to be courteous to workers in your home, do the work yourself.

I did home health PT for a few years. Meaning I was working out of my car, driving from patient to patient for 7-8 hours every day. I usually tried to go at a gas station/grocery store or similar place when needed, but there were a couple times I was tight on time and asked patients if I could use theirs. Never any hesitation. I even had more than quite a few always offer if I needed to use their bathroom (or if I needed food/water) before leaving.

Wouldn't even cross my mind to deny someone to use mine.

I go out of my way to offer the use of the facilities (bathroom, sinks, kitchen) to anyone working in my home—unless it’s a super short visit. After 3 babies I sometimes have issues with urgency and I would hate for someone to feel uncomfortable in my house.

I will let anybody use the hallway bathroom... I will let anyone BUT my brother in-law use mine. I am not a fan of this markings on the seat.

Speaking of people using the restroom…

Honestly, this issue never occurred to me until a couple years ago
To me a bathroom is a bathroom and easy enough to clean. But I am guessing there will be people in both camps.

Do you allow people doing work in your house to use your restroom?

The HVAC guy we always request for our maintenance initially asked to use our restroom while he was here and I always said sure. Now after several years he doesn’t even ask, he just uses it. I’m fine with it. Those people work out of their vans and often travel from house to house in remote areas. If the guy needs my bathroom, I have no problem with it.

A friend of mine had a repair man over one time and he asked to use her restroom. She let him but she was appalled. She posted it on social media how she couldn’t believe his nerve. And said she stood outside the door with her phone ready to call 911. 🤷‍♀️ I mean, what did she think he was doing in there that might be a threat to her? She had people on both sides of the issue giving their opinion. I believe I just said sure why not?

We have a plumber who when he comes over if we have to leave we just tell him lock the door on his way out. Maybe it’s the fact we have service people who we have become comfortable with, I don’t know.

If I really think about it, I guess since at my jobs I have always had access to a comfortable restroom, I would hate for someone to be uncomfortable doing their job. And I know my parents would have never denied anyone anything they needed.
I’m interested in hearing people’s thoughts on this.
 Your friend is a mean-spirited person and even reading this hurts my heart a little. I manage a team of Warranty Technicians who have very high integrity and are dedicated to doing a great job for people. For the sake of professionalism, they would certainly try to time their calls to allow for bathroom breaks elsewhere but if the need was urgent and they asked, I'd be crestfallen to know a customer of ours was thinking of them that way. :sad1:

Yes, have had workers use it many times. Clean it up after they leave. I could never say no. When you have to go, you have to go. I know what it's like. Sometimes driving and there is no restaurant/supermarket in sight, I wish I could run out and ring someone's door bell :guilty:

This pandemic has opened my eyes to a lot of things. Being away from some people or situations you tend to see them for what they really are. I haven’t been around this person, who is part of a larger friend group, and it’s harder to deal with her nonsense now.

Not only do I let workers use the bathroom, but if they are here for hours, I make coffee , cookies and put out bottles of water. I put the water etc, out on the porch. The take or not , it's up to them. My thoughts are a happy worker is a good worker.

We had a roof put on about a year ago. We got a name from a neighbor. Called him up. He said did you get a roof from XYZ company. Yeah. I was on that crew, I remember the cookies. For that job, we had roof, windows, siding. So they were here for days. He was right out of high school working on that crew. Now he has his own company working with his son who is older than he was when working on our house.

During the summer, I leave a note in the mailbox for the carrier. "There is water on the porch if you needs it." Every morning I would put frozen bottles in a small cooler. Most days he took a bottle. At the end of the summer, he came up and knocked on the door and said it was a blessing to get the water.

I can so relate to this comment. My tolerance level for friend nonsense is on zero now.

And, yes. Have always allowed people that I have asked over to my house…to pay them for a household service, access to the bathroom. It’s not like they are in an office and can walk down the hall whenever they need to…certainly wouldn’t expect them to get in their truck to go down the road to the gas station. 🤣

Now when we were building a house. The contractor brought in a porta potty…no facilities and I’m glad the guys didn’t use the trees. 🤪
