Bathing suits under clothes?

A friend of mine swears by having her kids wear their bathing suits under their clothes so they dry out quicker after rides like Splash Mountain, etc. I would think that the extra layer would just make they warmer (and grumpy to boot!;) ).

Is it really more comfortable to put on their bathing suits instead of regular underwear? I can see having ds wear his surfer trunks as shorts but I'm not sure about my dds.

What do you do at the parks?

You can always have the girls wear board shorts. My DD wears them constantly (and so do I). They are great and dry out so quickly and are really really light-much lighter than regular shorts. In fact, I don't think either one of us own a regular pair of shorts anymore.

I definitely wouldn't do it with a one piece suit for your DDs. I just picture a nightmare trying to go the the restrooms and having to take off a shirt to get the top of the suit off. Externally, any lightweight, synthetic clothing should dry quickly-like soccer shorts, board shorts, running shorts, etc. Cotton underware, however, could be problematic if they get soaked on a ride like Kali. It might be easier to carry an extra pair for parks where they might get soaked, as they don't take up much space and are fairly light. Just a couple thoughts from a dad.

I dunno. Sounds like a really good chafing opportunity to me...

About the board shorts...if they are wearing them so they dry off, that means no underpants, which could be, erm, interesting. And chafey. :) As a female I've worn them like that one time while moving or something, and those mesh pseudo-unders just get uncomfortable!

As for a usual girl's bathing suit...depends on the fabric. I've had some suits (I grew up in CA and loved going to Great America and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!) that dried fast, and others that dried slow...

And MAN is it awful when you're wearing a slow-drying suit under clothes, and have a big wet buttprint on your pants!

I personally would just bring a change of clothes...kids can wear suits on those rides, but then change out of them once it is time to be dry.

Hmmmm...never had that issue...guess it goes to show that everyones experience is different. :confused3

To me it seems silly to be uncomfortable and risk causing some major chafing in the heat for 2 rides at different parks. There are only 2 rides to get wet on. My DD and DH never mind being wet so they just dry off with walking I don't like being wet so I take a poncho and put it on before the ride and then I am just damp after and that is OK. I take the cheap ones and when done riding for the day throw them out. I'd rather go thru $4. in cheap ponchos than have a sore, miserable child.

And the Dad who mentioned the taking the suit off for the bathroom- You are so right what a pain and to do it everytime!

I've had my daughters wear bikinis under their clothes on a few occasions. Two trips were in the heat of August and they didn't have any issues with chafing.

It did allow them to get wet at any ride that allowed it. They played at Donald's boat in MK for quite a while -- cooling off then we went to the ladies room and they changed/dried off. I had undies and a smallish towel for each of them in a ziplock bag in our backpack. They dried off and put the wet suits in a bag. the undies went on with the dry clothes over them.

It also worked well for Kali River Rapids.

Thanks for the input! I didn't realize that there were only 2 wet rides.

Also, you don't get THAT wet on Splash Mountain.

Your biggest issue with a soggy bottom on that ride is sitting down in a pool of water left by the feet of the person who just exited the ride. Just have a small towel handy to dry off the seat before you sit down (a washcloth from the hotel will work fine).

As for Kali, you can get pretty wet, but it's not SO wet that your underwear will get soaked! I mean, come on. Just don't wear jean shorts, since those take FOREVER to dry and it feels pretty icky with damp shorts in the summer. Wear a poncho on Kali and you'll stay relatively dry.

Having experienced both of the rides in the last 2 days:goodvibes I can tell you my experience. I was sitting in the front row on splash and got pretty wet. Not drenched, but my entire right side was beyond damp..it took me about 15-30 minutes to dry...wearing khaki shorts.

Kali on the other hand, I got SOAKED..it took FOREVER to dry out and I was wearing lightwight cotton capris. I think a bathing suit would have made it taken even longer.

Have fun!

For us it's not just for the wet rides, it's for the misting/spraying areas that the kids like to visit. They can get soaked there. But I do have them change out ofthe wet suits after that so they are not walking around wet all day.

My girls (17 & 9) choose to wear two piece bathing suits under their clothes. They like the water stuff. Last year when we went we were there during Alberto. They had on suits under their clothes and were much more comfortable than I was. I think it is a personal preference. DH always wears the long swim shorts.
