Hi. Has anyone had this company in and redo your bathtub? Is it worth looking in to? We are trying to redo/update our home to we hope sell next year, and are on a tight budget.

Hi

We used Bathfitters to do our bathroom last year and was very happy with the job done :thumbsup2

Price was around $2,800 but that was a lot cheaper than getting the bathtub wall re-tiled and it still looks good!

Hope this helps!

Friends of ours had their bathroom redone by Bathfitters.

They had a walk in tub installed and are very pleased with it.

We're having our main bathroom redone by Bath Fitters March 31. Ask me April 1 what I think...

We first saw them in 1997 at a Home Show ... it only took us until 2002 to actually decide get the work done :rotfl: ... then sold the house 2 years later. Really wish we had done it when we first saw them. Yes, it was expensive, but when you think about the work of re-tiling and putting in a new tub, the price is very comparable. and the end result is beautiful.

HIGHLY recommend them. :thumbsup2

We used them in our old townhouse & it looked awesome! I was sad when we moved because the house we moved into had an old whirlpool tub that needed updating & Bathfitters couldn't go over a whirlpool tub. We definatley would have reused them again. They were done in a day. We just redid our whole bathroom in this house & it took us (we did it ourselves) 5 days to put in a new Mirolin tub/shower 3 piece unit because all the plumbing had to be changed. It would have been much easier to just do Bathfitters.

They are expensive, but worth it. Remember though, if there's any problems with piping behind the walls after you use them (leak, etc) that the tub overlay can't be pulled out to fix it, it gets glued right to the existing stuff.

I would think twice about getting the work done for sure! We had it done almost 2 years ago, and although we have had no trouble with the finished product, for the cost and the problems with install we had were not worth it. We put in a new floor before they came. We had a brand new guy come without help to our house(we did not know this at the time). He took 12 hours that day, cut our new floor and wrecked the tub so bad, we had to wait 2 months with half an install for a new tub to be molded.
The company did pay to have our new floor replaced, but what a hassle, and I always had to chase them down, they never called me!
It took 3 months for a "one day" bath remodel. Not worth the trouble at all!

They priced out a new tub, wall and sliding door for my bathroom. My dad looked at it and laughed. The price was so expensive and they don't remove the old tile.

My dad took down the old tile, replaced the wall with the proper jip rock for bathrooms, installed a new tub, wall unit and faucet for a fraction of the cost. Didn't see any sliding doors I liked so I went with a curved shower rod. I already had a shower curtain from my condo so I just purchased some nice hooks and now it looks great.

I already have a low flow toilet waiting to be installed, I just have to buy some flooring and a new cabnet and the whole bathroom will be done. This should all come in under the Bath Fitters quote and so much more will have been replaced.

Yes, it did take longer than one day, but I am also able to pay for it as I am able to come up with the money. I'm also lucky as my dad can do the work for me.

A friend of mine had bathfitters in to do an estimate and it was much higher than the prices she got for having the whole bathroom gutted and redone. It appears that you are paying more for the convience of a one day service.

I just had my tub and tile reglazed.. to a nice gleeming white from a awful patterned tile wall and bone coloured tub. You might have something similar in your area. I too am selling but I donot have the $$ to put for a new tub and wall tile. This cost me approx. $600 per bathroom. Looks great.

I didn't know you could have tile reglazed. How do they handle the grout? Was that with Bath Fitters?

I am thinking of having the tub reglazed but my SIL told me she had hers done by a company that used an environmental product that didn't have the smell the others had. I have to follow up and see who that was, but she's in the Hamilton area.

I can't comment on the quality of their product, but as a realtor my thoughts are that if it costs less to do and makes your home look updated then that will add value. However, I usually point out to my customers when a washroom has been "bath-fitted" as opposed to replacement of existing. So a bath-fitted washroom is not as valuable as a new washroom. Good luck!

Just a word of caution if you have older pipes and/or are on well/septic. My sister had hers done and she was out in the country up in Sudbury. Maybe guy was new, whatever, but he screwed it up and they ended up with a burst pipe right near the well and had to dig down in frozen December dirt 8 ft to repair it. I do think they finally settled with Bathfitters (maybe waived the cost or something) but not after a TON of run-around and stress from my sister. Also not sure if it is a franchise....if you do go with them, get references from the guy directly would be my suggestion.

I do real estate too, but look at things a little differently. Yes Bathfitters just go over the existing but it does look nice when it's done, especially to clients. If a bathroom is gutted & redone, there's no guarentee the work has been done properly, especially if it's a "DIY" job by the homeowner.

& Bathfitters actually cost more than redoing it so the "cost less + value" doesn't actually apply here.

Bathfitters will actually update your pipes for you. They offered to do it for us when we used them but we actually had access to the pipes from the other side because of the way our bathroom was laid out so if there were any problems, we could just rip out the other side of the wall & not the actual tub.

It's all a personal preference. We used them & liked them. We didn't need to gut our whole bathroom then, we just needed a new tub to update & with it being done in a day (our bathroom gut started in Nov 09 & just finished last weekend because we did it ourselves), it appealed to us.
