Never had one before but it comes with my dining plan. Here's the question:

When I refill the mug, do I need to wait in line to show the cashier the mug or can I just leave?

No need to wait in line, you just need to go to the drink station and fill up, most resorts the drink stations are outside of the cashier area so you won't even pass the cashier when you are refilling. Just fill up and leave.

I love it! An actual, honest refillable mug question!! :thumbsup2

Whodathunkit?

OP - after that first time when you pick out your mug and the cashier snaps off the security tag, just fill up and go*** - and have a great trip!!!

***Subject to all applicable rules and restrictions of the Refillable Mug, of course.

Of course this might not be an issue much longer. Disney are testing cups that have a chip in the cup that is activated for a length of time after you buy the cup. The dispenser will only dispense pop if you have a valid chip in your cup. I believe they are testing this at one of the Value Resorts.

I have a basic question too.... how/when do you clean them? Do I need to bring sponges with Dawn on them with me, or can I get them cleaned at the resort's quick service place?

It's a gross thought to me, just thinking about drinking out of the same cup for over a week without waching it. And the chapstick buildup - oh the humanity!

there is a sink for rinsing out the cups at the end of the soda fountain station. You can bring your own soap if you wish. Leave the soap in your room and just before you leave for the food court, squirt a drop of soap into mug...then rinse at the sink/food court. If the water at the sink is not hot enough, go to the hot water dispenser (for tea) and fill your mug there...take it to the sink & rinse.

Is there a selection of different cups to choose from or only one style per resort?

To the OP I just wanted to say if you were staying at the Boardwalk Inn/Boardwalk Villas they don't have any self serve refill stations. At the locations where you get refills you show a Cast Member your mug and they give you a drink of your choice in a paper cup, because they are not allowed to refill the mugs. However all the Quick Service locations at the other WDW Resorts have self serve mug stations where you refill the mug yourself.

Not all the Quick Service locations have a sink for rinsing out the mugs and one location like that is Gasparilla's Grill & Games at the Grand Floridian.

Actually, at the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs you give your mug to someone and they fill it. At least that's how it was when we were there in September 2009. There was another "grab and go" type location, whose name I forget, where self service was available.

Use the HOT water dispenser on the coffee machine. AT least it will be sterile.

You don know not really. ;)

from wikipedia

To achieve sterility, a holding time of at least 15 minutes at 121 °C (250 °F) or 3 minutes at 134 °C (273 °F) is required.

I would say due to the McDonald's incident it might only be 170°F.

Regarding the washing your mug out part....
I wash ours out in our room in the evening. After we have consumed our last beverage of the evening, I wash them out in our sink. I have found the water in the rooms to get quite hot. I use a dab of dish soap on a sponge I bring from home and then set them on a hand towel to dry or sometimes I use the handtime to dry them. depends on how tired I am... :rotfl:

I, too, have a refillable mug question. ;)

If we get the free refillable mug as park of the 2012 DDP, when/where do you get it? Do they have them at check-in or at a resort market time place? We're going in January and are staying at BC and this just made me think of it...

In trying to limit the liquids I haul from home, I bought some dollar tree sponges, cut them into 3rds and pre-soaped them. I put liquid soap on them and then dehydrated them in the microwave... easy to carry, and use to wash the mugs out in the mug wash stations. Except, I had difficulty getting my hand down into the bottom of the mug to get it clean, lol!

There will be a mug credit on your KTTW card. One for each person on your room reservation (over 3). Just grab a mug at the checkout counter and they'll "charge" your KTTW for the mug credit.
