basic question...

I find that two days is plenty. But, I have been countless times, my kids are older teens and we rope drop, rest for a couple hours before dinner and then close the parks down.

First time, younger kids? Then I would recommend at least three days with park hoppers.

Agree with the suggestions above to stay at a close motel on Harbor...nothing beats a 5-10 minute trip walk from the park entry gates to your room.

I've done it like that before, but we had park hoppers. 1st day DL, 2nd DCA, 3rd day we did half and half and it worked well.

On the budget we had, we couldn't spring for a 4 day-8 day trip like some are suggesting. We made the 3 days work and had a great time :)

You may well find that with the final day of the three, using the parkhopper tickets, that you manage to make use of the rides in either park that you didn't originally do during your first 2 days. I'm sure you'll find something good to go on or repeat if you enjoyed it so much over your first two days :)

As others have said, I would do hoppers do each park on the first 2 days and then spend the third either doing some of what you missed the first 2 days or hitting the things you liked the most one more time before your trip is over. Keep in mind though, even doing that you will probably miss some things, but I think that would be your most efficient use of your time. Plus, with the hoppers it gives you the freedom to do things like catch a meal or show at one of the parks even if it isn't the one you are spending most of your day at.
