Basic question on annual points

We bought into DVC earlier this year and now have a seemingly pretty simple newbie question. Will the points listed in the Dreams book remain the same for us across the years or will they fluctuate? It seems they remained the same from 2008 to 2009 in the chart on the DVC site, but if a one-bedroom runs us 182 points for a week now, will it always be 182 points and just the dates for the seasons change?

(sidebar) Also, anyone know if SSR has a frozen coke machine? :rolleyes1

The total number of points on the chart is supposed to be a "locked" system, so I suppose points could float up and down, but only if the total number doesn't change. That's just my speculation - I think that they pretty much stay the same, though I recall hearing about an overall adjustment to one resort...don't remember which one. BWV?

Anyhow, what DOES fluctuate is the dates within each season, based on when holidays like Easter fall in the year.

The DVC resorts will stay pretty steady, other than holiday times that change like Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. But they could change the number of points required. It one day/type of accomodation increased, somewhere else it would have to decrease. There are only so many points available per resort.

However, all the non-DVC stays can and do increase nearly yearly.

None of the point charts for DVC resorts have changed (except for the annual fluxuation for Thanksgiving and Easter) since 1996 when the points at OKW were reallocated. At that time some nights went up a few points, some went down a few points and most didn't change at all. As long as the total points at any resort are not changed, DVC has the ability to modify the points needed to stay at the resort over the course of a year.

I do not expect any changes in the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the quick replies. We were originally planning a trip to SSR in 2010, but may have some points available where we could sneak in a quick trip in 2009 as well. Wasn't sure if the Disney resort point requirements were locked in as if we do the 2009 and 2010 trip that only leaves 1 point wiggle room.

I do not recall a frozen coke machine at SSR, other than placing a regular coke can in the studio mini or larger room's freezer... ;)

LOL, so what does that have to do with points? LOL!

Points equate to a percentage of ownership. Therefore, the number of points charged for a reservation, on an annual basis, cannot change. As previous posters have indicated, DVC can make adjustments, but the totals for the year cannot change.

The TOTAL number of points required at any resort annually for ALL reservations never changes. The daily requirements CAN fluctuate with demand for periods of one or more years. That is why you may or may not see a change in points requirement for a particular time of year in the same accommodations.
