My partner and I were looking at the menus for the different restaurants on the Dream and a lot of them don't appeal to us. Maybe that is because we are basic eaters and such. I am willing to try new stuff but some of the things I saw I would not want to try. Are there options for us non-foodies? Or will we be filling up at one of the places open all day before dinner? Thanks in advance for any information!!

There's usually like 3 basic menu items offered each night in addition to the standard menu selections.

You can always ask your server for something off the kids menu as well- I have read of other adults on here doing that.

I am not a foodie but enjoy trying new things. Depending on your dining time, if you don't fill up on "new things", there is usually wings and nachos in the sports bars, and Pizza, burgers and hotdogs by the pools :)

On our Mediterranean cruise in 2008 we sat at a table with a father and his two sons. Each night they had a shrimp cocktail, a plain steak, and french fries. Every night. Without fail.

Hi vroomvroom! I was going to post this exact thread! My family eats well but eats rather plainly. These restaurants look gorgeous but the menus may be too upscale for us! Thought maybe we would be eating at salad/sandwhich areas on deck 11 and just doing dessert in the main areas.Crazy right???

I have recently got my partner to try seafood and she likes it!! So maybe we will try some new things but I wanted to make sure that we wouldn't be not eating!

We go to upscale restaurants and can usually find something so I am sure we'll have no worries after reading all these responses!

That is the word I was looking for plain..lol. A lot of times when I say plain I get looked at weird when talking about food because I prefer the plain stuff!!

:)First, give something new a try. You can always have them elimate the sauce or keep out the mushrooms. But, this is a great time to try something you have never had. You can give a fancy appetizer a try and stick to a steak or plain chicken for you main course. I am sure you can go for something off the kids menu.

One of my favorite parts of any vacation is trying something new a dinner.
With the cruise it is really easy, because you can always order something else if you did not like your first choice.:)

I would have never thought of it this way! If I don't like what is brought then I can order something else!! Thanks for reminding me about that!!

HAHAHAHAHA! This sounds like my family! I have a husband and younger daughter that are not necessarily picky, they just like what they like! He prefers french fries to an other potato/pasta/starch and she does not like condiments with the exception of A-1 steak sauce and barbeque sauce. I figure she'll be eating a lot of steaks, aand he will too. Not into fancy sauces, gravies or reductions. I really want to see what the buffet place (Cabanas?) has to offer!

We are the same, simple plain meals. We like to put the sauce on the side if we don't know what it is. Also with having high blood pressure I have to watch my salt intake. When looking at some the menus, I'm not sure what somethings are, so I'm looking forward to the posting of pictures from the restaurants.

Hopefully someone will post some pics soon!

….and they offer cold soup over and over, described with fancy words that causes this kid from the sticks that does not want cold soup to accidently order cold soup.

I’ve been told that cold soup is for those with discriminating taste. Guess this means I don’t have discriminating taste.

Talking to other hicks from the sticks I’ve confirmed I’m not the only one who thought they were ordering something different only to be served cold soup.
One spoonful is all it takes to know its just cold soup no matter how fancy of words they use to describe it.

My cold soup goes uneaten.

I’m sure some high paid menu planner is tracking the number of times each menu item is ordered.

Unfortunately I am skewing this number by making this same mistake over and over. It’s those fancy words that get me every time. If the menu simply said “COLD SOUP” I’d never order it.

Another hooray for basic food meals:cool1:
Can someone post a kids' menu, or tell about items they remember on the kids' menu? THANKS!

As a foodie in a non-foodie house, we have this discussion all the time. As a previous poster mentioned a cruise is a great place to try something new if you don't like it, your wait staff is only to happy to bring you something else. Also someone talked about sauce on the side, most of the menu items are fairly plain food with fancy sauces and presentation. If you get the sauce on the side you can try it and if you don't like it you still have a fairly plain meal in front of you.
My tip is to use your wait staff, they are not just there to serve your food they will have an extensive knowledge of the menu as well. Let them know your likes and dislikes and they will help you with recommendations based on your preferences. This is actually part of a wait staffs job and how they earn their tips

And I think that all the menus I've seen from the Dream at least so far say that oven roasted chicken and baked salmon are always available by request so at the very least there is that.
I really liked this poster's idea of doing a fancy appetizer and a more basic entree.
Of course, we are foodies in our household so we're most looking forward to all the fancy stuff :yay:

Those two along with a sirloin steak are the typical "Lighter Fare" options offered on each menu.

If you choose a basic entree, what are your choices for potatoes and vegetables, I like my veggies.

That is our plan too, hate spending so long in the dining rooms and have not been able to get 5 PM show and main dining so we will have lunch in the dining room that is open, dinner on the pool deck and dessert in the dining room.

It was a little difficult to find something on the Til We Meet Again Menu this past weekend. My parents both ordered the chicken from the Lighter Fare. It came with baked potato and veggies. They thought it was very good. I ordered the Seafood Linguini with just lobster. I don't go for scallops or mussels or any of that. It was very good and just what I wanted.

Usually I can find one item I'll eat- steak, pasta or chicken but it was all very fancy and not a lot of what I would eat. There was a steak on that menu but we had steak the night before so we wanted something different. Even dh who isn't picky had a hard time finding something he would eat. Maybe they should take a look at that particular menu and revamp it.
