Info required on baseball games in Florida

When does the schedule start?

Where are the pitches?

What are the different team names and colours.

Hope someone can help with the above info, my family and I always take our annual vacation in Florida, but we have only even been in November!

I am really into baseball and would love to watch a whole match live. So we have booked our flights for April/May 2005, we are taking a week in Kissimmee and a week in Marco Island.

Hoping to get a least two games in while we are there.

Please help, Suzie (Stuart's DW)

Start at the link below: Braves Spring Traning

Then this link will also connect you to other teams schedules.

But I guess you mean regular season don't ya. Regular season starts around the 1st of April.

If you are not going to Florida until April then spring training will be over and the regular season will have started. Your 2 choices are the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the World Champion Florida Marlins. Tampa Bay is a lot closer to Orlando as the Marlins play right outside of Miami at Pro Player Stadium. I would go to www.mlb.com and try to find the schedules of each team.

Good luck.

The regular season will have started in April. In Orlando, you can go see the Rays on WDW property. They are a minor league team. If you prefer major League Baseball, you will need to travel to Miami to see the Marlins or Tampa to see the Devil Rays.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Florida Marlins

I don't think the TB devil rays Minor league team is at Disney any more I believe last yr was their last yr at Cracker Jack!
The Best bet will be to go see the Devil Rays in the Tampa St Pete area

I see that your trip is scheduled for next year, 2005. You will not be able to see an official schedule or purchase tickets for games until next year. The schedule should be posted on the team's website by Dec. 2004 or Jan. 2005. Tickets would be available sometime afterwards.

We have taken in a Devil Rays game while staying in Orlando. It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from the Orlando area to St. Petersburg where Tropicana Field is located. (Although the team is the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, they actually play in St. Pete.)

I don't know if you are interested in specific opposing teams but it should be noted that the Devil Rays play in the American League meaning that their opponents would include teams such as the NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Oakland A's, Minnesota Twins, etc. The Devil Rays have a history of being one of the poorer teams in the majors so you may want to try to see a game featuring one of the better clubs as their opponent.

Should you choose to go to Miami, the Marlins are the reigning World Champions and have a much better ball club with excellent pitching. They play in the National League and as such their opponents would include the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, NY Mets, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, etc.

Hope this information is helpful to you. I know olena posted the MLB websites for both the Rays and the Marlins. They should give you a good deal of information.

TB's minor league is no longer at WDW. They currently do not have a team to replace them. Even though TB is closer, the staduim leaves more than to desire. It reminds me of a sterile hospital or something. There is the minor league NY Yanks in Tampa and now their stadium is pretty!

I suggest avoiding seeing a Yankees game at all costs, its just bad Karma (of course this coming from a Red Sox fan)!

Thanks folks,you are so helpful.

What are the Cubs games like?.

Had a look at the Jackie Robinson Ballpark while at Daytona last year. The place is a bit sparse and simple but its the atmosphere that makes for a good game IMHO.

I think it would be good to see a game at Major League level and another one at the grass root [if thats the right phrase] ballparks.

Living in the UK means Baseball is non existant and I have to tune in to the tv at 04-00 in the morning to catch the games on Cable.

Thanks for the replies

Suzie

I don't have anything to add about baseball but just that I feel your pain about having to get up in the wee hours to watch a match--soccer, that is! We are big Premiership fans and we don't get too much coverage here. I just watched Man. City v. Man. U. on Wednesday....the game was played last Saturday. It's better than nothing!
