Hi there - we will be going to Tropicana Fields in August to see the Rays vs the Yankees. This will be our first live game and having just gone online to book tickets, I'm bemused by just how many there are to choose from :confused3 ;)

Whilst I don't want to break the bank by getting expensive seats, I also don't want something that you need binoculars to see the game - any experts out there to guide me in the right direction of the best, reasonably priced seats?

Thanks :sunny:

I don't have any specific information about your particular baseball field. But I know it is easier to follow the game if you are sitting behind homeplate, even if it is somewhat from higher up. IMHO it is a more interesting perspective for watcing the game rather than from the outfield looking towards homeplate.

Ahhhhhh...my family LOVES baseball...our vacation last year was to five different parks, and we just returned from Pittsburgh where we caught 2 Pirates games. We too plan to hit the D-Rays on our way to Disney in August.

We actually prefer not to sit directly behind homeplate...the screen blocks our chance at foul balls!

Our favorite seats are always lower level along either the first or third baselines. Most often, the rows right near the field are for season ticket holders but we've had good fortune getting seats about 16-18 rows up. I think at the Trop those seats run about $35 (actually pretty pricey compared to most stadiums; we paid $24 at PNC in Pittsburgh).

Lower level seats generally allow you to get down near the dugouts during batting practice to try and get autographs; many stadiums will not allow you down in the 100 level unless you hold tickets for those seats. If getting close to players and trying to score autographs is important, spend the money for lower levels.

Next best seats would probably be first rows in the second level, still along the baselines OR behind home plate. In the second level, you'll have good sight lines of the whole field.

The drawback to sitting second level can be getting concessions. Many stadiums do not have the usual 'beer man', drinks, cotton candy, etc. guys coming through the aisles in the upper levels. Also, on the upper levels, the concession stands are usually 'underneath' the seating area so the only way you can continue to watch the action is on video screens while you wait. In many of the newer parks, the lower level concessions are open to the field so you can still look out at the live action while waiting on line.

I also know from speaking to a friend in Tampa that D-Rays tickets are, in fact, easy to get, although he said they draw very well when the Yankees are in town. Don't delay too long or you may not have as great a choice in seats.

Have fun!
