Latest word out of Cleveland (who, I believe made him an offer to try to retain him) is that Seattle is the frontrunner right now. I think I heard 4 years and something like $44 Mil is the offer?

Yep. The radio guys spent a good amount of time talking about how we could be paying 2 mil more year for Millwood than we could have wrapped up Freddy Garcia for two years ago. Makes no sense to me, and many others, since there was no way Freddy was signing here.

I'd be thrilled to see Millwood in blue and teal.

Sorry about the Tribe Steve. Like the Marlins they seem on bent on dumping anybody that might help them win thsi coming season.

The main problem with the Tribe is that they refuse to give out anything more than a 2 year deal. And that's not cutting it when you're talking about a pitcher who had a season like Millwood did last year. I wouldn't say they're as bad as the Marlins, as they're not shipping off players quite the same way, but they've gotten killed with not signing their own free agents so far this year. I have no clue what happened with Bob Howry -- next thing I heard, he was signing a deal with the Cubs. No word (that I heard) about the Tribe even offering him a deal? :confused3

I like Grady Little. I think he got hosed in Boston. Trying to remove hindsight, I still don't think that was bad decision in game 7.

Did you have to bring that up?? I still have nightmares and my therapist says I'm not allowed to talk about them :( :rotfl2:

Millwood could probably win 16-18 games as a number 3, maybe 2. Just don't ask him to be the ace. He doesn't have the mental toughness. At least not yet.

Good morning! I'm sure most of you have heard that Soriano got traded to the Nationals.

And the arbitration deadline was midnight. Bernie Williams & Johnny Damon were offered arbirtration, Mike Piazza (not a surprise) & Roger Clemens were not. Will Clemens go back to the Yanks? or will he pitch in the World Baseball Classic, and then sign with the Astros after May 1st or will he retire? I think it will be the 2nd option.

I think either Clemens will retire or sign with the Astros after May 1st. I doubt he's going anywhere else, except maybe the Rangers (who, I can't imagine want him for anything except to sell tickets). Anywhere outside of Texas won't be viable if Roger still wants to be with his family most of the time, like he had arranged with the Astros.

The Nats are going to be pretty good Missy!

The Jays did get Overbay - wow! This has been some offseason!

That's assuming the Yanks want him back, which I don't see (although, personally, I'd love it).

I am sure you would!

I would personally love the Yanks not to get him - finish in third behind the Sox and Jays - not make the playoffs and sit on their couch for the first time in a decade and watch a massive Block party form in Queens!!!! October 2006 - you are all invived to the Rosevelt Avenue Block Party - also known as THE WORLD SERIES AT SHEA BABY!!! WAHOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Ok Ok - Ill wake up now - I promise!!! :teeth:

Renteria to Atlanta for 3B prospect Andy Marte. Now if we can just off load him to TB for Lugo we'd be on a roll! :goodvibes

Except we do have that burden of Manny still....d'oh!

I would love that, even though I love Julio and am angered that BJ Upton won't play third

No we want to keep Marte.

This is last years scouting report From baseball America :

Top Prospect: Andy Marte, 3B

Age: 20 Ht.: 6-1 Wt.: 185. Bats: R Throws: R
Signed: Dominican Republic, 2000.
Signed by: Rene Francisco/Julian Perez.

Background: After leading the low Class A South Atlantic League with 105 RBIs in 2002, Marte jumped to high Class A and continued his emergence as one of the top infield prospects in the game. He overcame a rough start that included a .200 batting average during April to pace the Carolina League in doubles and extra-base hits. That type of turnaround was no surprise, for Marte never has had difficulty staying focused. In his first pro season after signing with the Braves for $600,000, he struggled to make contact and batted just .200 at Rookie-level Danville. He learned from that experience and hasn't looked back since.

Strengths: Marte has a quick, line-drive stroke that continues to add power as his body matures. His pitch recognition is as good as anyone's in the system, and he has the uncanny ability to make adjustments with his swing while the ball is on the way to the plate. For a young player, he already understands the importance of drawing walks and made significant strides in that area in 2003. While defense was once a struggle for Marte, hard work and experience have paid off for him at third base. He has improved on charging slow rollers and on making accurate throws. He has average speed, and is a smart and effective baserunner. Marte's desire to succeed is strong, yet he never lets his emotions get the best of him. His ability to stay on an even keel and separate the different aspects of the game has put him on the fast track to the major leagues.

Weaknesses: His defensive footwork could stand some upgrading, especially when going back on balls and to his left. But the Braves are confident Marte will develop into no worse than an average defender at the hot corner.

The Future: While spending full seasons at both Class A stops, Marte has made rapid progress and shows no sign of slowing down on his way to the big leagues. He's the best third-base prospect in the minors and unquestionably the Braves' long-term answer at the hot corner. The Braves want Marte to spend most of the upcoming season at Double-A Greenville, but his progress and the needs in Atlanta could accelerate his ETA. He should make his big league debut no later than a September callup.

Now, as a Mets fan, I'm pretty happy with the moves they made. But I gotta wonder--Julio Franco, signed for 2 years? What's up with that? :rotfl:

Not to sure!!! I mean - I guess to Pinch hit and back up Delgado at first. Either that or they are planning to join a sunday softball league! Really - that guy is like 90!!! :rotfl:

Anybody here think that Miguel Tejada might be traded to the Red Sox after demanding to be traded yesterday? I'd hate to see the Sox get him, especially if they keep Manny, because they would certainly have the most dangerous lineup in baseball....I'd hate to admit that.

As for my beloved Yanks. You can say that for once they didn't go out and spend a lot of money, but I have this awful feeling that it somehow is going to blow up in their faces. What if Wang, Chacon, and Small , do not pitch as well as they did this past year? Plus, you've got to worry about Pavano and Wright, not to mention Mussina isn't getting any younger and Johnson...let's not go there. I expect either a really good season for my team, or it could be downright awful.

Mickey - if you hear Tejada to Boston - you will hear the Manny to Os rumors - I am sure if the Sox want tejada - the Os want manny!

Newest rumors I've read this morning...

The Cardinals are now interested in Kevin Millwood (who's got "super agent Scott Boras"  looking for more money than AJ Burnett) and now the Mariners are moving on to trying to sign Matt Morris.

Anyone want JT Snow? :rotfl: Apparently, he's pretty much open to anything, now that the Giants signed Mike Sweeney (a good signing, BTW), he's out of a job.

Apparently, my Tribe has made an offer to Nomar, one of the first teams to make an offer and promise him a regular position instead of a utility role (I can only guess it would be a combo of 1B and 3B?)

Its amazing - a couple of years ago you would debate who was better, Arod, Nomar or Jeter and now Nomar is begging for an everyday spot!

No problem with signing him, I think the guy will still be hitting when he's 100. But for 2 years? C'mon, that's a bit much.

Mickey76, I think the Red Sox would love Tejada, but will the O's trade him in the division?
