Hi all. My DBF just informed me that the Baseball General Managers Meetings will be held next week at the Dolphin. So be on the look out for LOTS of baseball players if you will be there next week.

Any idea what days? I'll be there Sunday-Friday. I'm a huge Red Sox fan.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but players don't usually go to the GM Meetings. I did have the pleasure of meeting Theo Epstein in Seattle a few years back though, and I met Derek Lowe (back when he was a cool Red Sox not a family breaking upper Dodger) at the Animal Kingdom in 2003!

Actually, DBF said they do because of the trades and deals that go on between the players and the managers.

sjw4870 - Not sure what days but I think it is all of next week. DBF is a Yankees fan (rivalry!) and he met Randy Vilardi on the bus coming home from MK. He had starry eyes for the rest of the trip!

I don't want to be a "party pooper" but I don't want anyone to go there with false hopes. My DH is at the "Baseball Winter Meetings" as we speak!! He is the General Manager of the Chicago Cubs AA affiliate in Tennessee and this is his 10th WInter Meetings. They are business meetings with a lot of trade shows for people who are in the business to order supplies, souvenirs , promotions etc for the next season. I would be shocked if there were any Major League players present unless they were former major leaguers who are now working in front offices/businesses of teams. Yes , trades do take place at the Winter Meetings but players are not present in person for the wheeling and dealing. That is done by team officials and players agents.

P.S. Winter Meetings used to run Thursdays-Mondays. THis year DH will be there today (SUn) and will be home Thursday. These meetings take up a lot of hotel rooms. He's at the Swan and they are also using the Dolphin. They were supposed to be at Gayloird Palms, but something fell through and they moved to WDW. They rotate each year all over the country.

Thanks for the update Bradyloganmom! Not a party pooper at all ;)

Now I get to tell DBF that he was wrong about something he always thinks he knows everything about!

In any event, that convention is probably way more interesting than the one that was going on when I was there. I think it was a software convention with lots of 'suits'.. :confused3

they actually have to work Fri/sat and sun.... that is sad.

most of the meeting I know take place during the week and generally end on thurs or fri....

sorry!!!

Please see my other posts about all the partying and drunken antics going on. I seriously hope this has stopped since the week end for the sake of all the regular hotel guests.

Oh, being such a baseball family that even seeing / meeting a GM would be my DH's dream!! Even DS6 would be amazed! Not that GM's aren't as idolized as pro athletes :teeth:

Not arriving until Saturday, we always seem to miss things like this!

I would imagine that a good time to see players at the parks would be soon after the world series ends, or shortly before spring training starts for those who train in Florida. That was when I saw D-Lowe, it was about a week before pitchers and catchers were scheduled to report...

According to the local news, Barry Bonds has been there, trying to get $40M for a two year contract from several franchises.

I saw that interview! They showed him walking around the lobby of the Dolphin...

I stayed at the Swan last week and checked out on the 4th. I wouldn't recognize a famous baseball player if he were on the same elevator as me! However, a friend of mine said he recognized a coach (San Diego Padres) in the lobby.

Same here Nancy! We checked out on Sunday the 3rd. I could've been standing next to one at the Dolphin and I wouldn't have known! :confused3

My DH and the boys would've known though.

He was signed to SF yesterday for $16M for one year. Actually a smart move, they'll sell a lot of tickets as he nears the record.
