Barry Manilow Refuses The View because of Rosie?

His music has always been lame yet hummable.

But i agree with his decision not to perform on a program with a right wing reactionary mouthpiece who advocates our troops remaining in Iraq for an indefinite period of time with NO strategy in place.

Her opinions are "out there" and don't deserve mainstream access. Either she (or the program) should go away. Good for Barry & I hope others follow his lead.

Bc if it is bc of Elizabeth, then isnt he basically empowering her by not standing up to her beliefs, it looks more like he is running away. And is Elizabeth this powerhouse with strong views or a puppet of the producer. Barry should want to avoid the View all together.

Now if it is to defend his friendship with Rosie then wouldnt he want to once again avoid the View all together. I mean did Elizabeth singlehandedly get Rosie off the show? I mean if he thinks that that is putting a lot of control and power in Elizabeth's hands that I dont believe she had.

Last I heard Rosie quit the View, probably with the higher ups prompting, so why wouldnt Barry want to avoid all of them, didnt everyone at the View and all those viewers and nonviewers that called for her firing arent they all to blame if all Barry is doing is defending his buddy????

And in regard to the whole Monica thing and Barbara shushing Elizabeth, once again is this Eilzabeth or the producer whipsering in her ears??? And why cant she bring it up, bc heaven forbid anyone allowed anything said that might tarnish the almighty Hilary. If your candidate is that strong then it shouldnt be an issue if something like that is brought up.

Did Barry say he despises EH? Do you despise people you don't know? Are you incapable discussing differing opinions with someone you disagree with?

But the issue wasn't the two of them just avoiding each other like at a dinner party or such and "playing" nicey nicey as a front. Barry made a specific request not to be interviewed by EH or he wasn't coming on the show. IMO, that's the same thing as telling a store or business you won't do business with them unless they can ensure that a certain employee doesn't serve or help them. That's incredibly self-centered and intolerant of him.

That's incorrect Joe. This country is very divided and it feels like we jumped back in time to the late 60's. It's not quite that bad yet, but anyone with a shred of honesty has to admit that hard feelings are very close to the surface. This poorly planned war has pitted American against fellow American and is more than just normal disagreements over politics and what party you vote for. The President who ran as the "great uniter" in 2000, has had a big hand in all of this anger, whether you admit it or not Joe.

I actually find myself longing for the days when Clinton was smack dab in the middle of the Lewinsky scandal. As bad as it was, at least people weren't dying over it and we weren't running up a huge deficit. The barbs and attacks seemed harmless to what's going on now. People are really upset over this war, how it was planned, how it was carried out, and the end result we have now. It just isn't liberals or the Democrats, Joe, it's people from all walks of life. I have seen life long Republicans drop party affiliation over this, myself included. One day Joe, you might see that it just isn't the fringe who are angry over what's going on. Posting terms like "No surrender" or "Stay the course" isn't going to help bring America together. We, as in America, need some closure to this debacle really soon. Another two years of this kind of anger stemming from this war, will hurt America more than the terrorists can only hope for. Think about it.

The thing that bothers me is when someone supports THIS case, but if another performer refused to interview with Whoopi or Joy because of their liberal views-that performer would be called a diva or intolerant.

Personally, I think Barry's trying to get publicity or maybe he really is that fond of Rosie that he can't speak to anyone that doesn't like her-but either way it seems immature to me. And I would think the same if someone did the same thing to Joy or Whoopi.

But since the producer, or EH;s puppetmaster as I like to call him is such a conservative this was a perfect situation for him to make another celb that does not support his political beliefs look bad.

I haven't watched since Rosie left. I heard the Shephard lady say she didn't know if the earth was round or flat and I just shook my head. When Rosie said the war in Iraq was wrong there were scores of people here condemning her. This? Nothing. I saw it on MSNBC and was mortified.

I totally agree with this! I am not a fan of EH and I do think she is not representative but I think she is entitled to her opinion.

I know many are not fans of Fox News but I always like Hannity and Colmes bc I thought the ideas were very interesting and as conservative as I like to think I am I could appreciate the views that were well presented by Colmes the liberal. Unlike Barry I do like to hear how others think and have a dialgoue evne if I dont agree.

I was kind of hoping that they would fill one of the seats with a stronger conservative voice just to balance things out a bit. Maybe even a real conservative, not a neo-con.

That the President and the GOP in general, have been hurt by the Iraq war and how it's been handled? It was the POTUS who made the decision after all to invade.

Do you really feel that everything is great and going good and it's all media bias that's driving the low poll numbers?

That thanks to the mistakes that have been made, that it's a strong possibility that the Democrats may take the WH in 08? Do you disagree with that?

Not trying to make anything sound like a disease and never claimed that the rest of the women were such liberals either, and I dont want to hear the extream of either mindset, i want to hear decent discusion of both points of view, not attacks.

I dont want to see anybody be made to look bad and I didnt agree with the rosie attack on tom selleck even though he did agree to discuss the topic on the show, did you know that?

Dont be sad for my beilefs, my beilefs are for people to stop being at each others throats and get back to be people not political talking heads full of rage and discust for the opposite of their beiliefs.

I am no Democrat, but Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a tool. I wouldn't go on any show she was a part of, either. She's a complete moron and I DO think her opinions are dangerous (although she has a right to them).
