Okay, I hated the barnstormer. I'm just not a roller coaster person, never have been. My hubby wants to ride Big Thunder Mountain but I'm a bit leery. How does it compare to the barnstormer?
Thanks!
Amanda

The barnstormer is a kiddie roller coaster. BTMR is a medium type adult roller coater. It is mild compared to SM, EE, and RR, but wilder than the Barnstormer.

Agree with the PP. Barnstormer is for wee kiddies. If you can't handle that, you'll really hate BTMRR. Even though it is mild as adult coasters go, and is one of my favourites, I would probably recommend that you not go on it. Try watching a couple of you tube videos if you like. If you wan't to stretch your comfort zone I would say go for it. Just stay away from the other coasters.

If your DH wants to ride it, then let him! Have him get a FP and you can relax nearby while he rides. No big deal. Don't let anybody coerce you into riding something that you really don't want to ride. Just because one person (or most people) aren't afraid, doesn't make your trepidation any less real.

BTMRR is a very hurky jerky ride. Barnstormer is over before it begins.

My 4 year old loves both.

Thank you all for your replies! I think I will pass. DH wouldn't try to make me ride it but I thought if it wasn't as bad as the barnstormer I might try it. He wasn't a tremendous fan of the barnstormer either so I think he's decided to pass after seeing the replies here. I think he also thought it would be less than the barnstormer. We've just never been roller coaster people. That's one reason we love Disney so much. There are a lot more options than just roller coasters. Thanks again!

My ds12 hates roller coasters but he likes BTMRR. It's not that rough and there are no hills.

To each their own. That being said, Big Thunder Mountain isn't scary in the least. A bit jerky? Sure. But there are no drops, no "scary track moments" that are the hallmark of so many roller coasters.

To me, Big Thunder is just distilled fun without the scariness. I can't imagine anyone that doesn't have physical issues not enjoying this ride.

The Barnstormer is a jerky kiddie coaster. To be honest, I think that you'll be find on BTMRR, as that attraction is more speed and tight turns rather than drops and "jerks". I'd give it a try, but I can't imagine it being too scary.

Ok...call me weird, but I was surprised how fast and high Barnstormer was for a kiddie ride. I was thinking it would be rinky-dink and it moved. However, it was very short and over before you knew it. Maybe perception...who knows? I LOVE BTMRR and I'm not a thrill ride fan. I had balance issues and this ride just made me laugh. Do NOT ride it in the dark however. Completely different.

I don't like roller coasters at all and I LOVE BTMRR. Just give it a shot, you only live once. There are no scary drops, no inversions, what you see is what you get. There is some great ride theme that you miss if you don't ride it. I highly suggest riding it at night, such a better experience and more to see!

True on all fronts. Barnstormer is more jarring than BTMRR.

I also thought it was faster and higher than it seemed from the ground. Even though it was over very quickly, it's slightly frightening with it's jerks and drops. BTMRR is not like that at all. It's smoother, with no drops, and feels overall more secure.

Rockin' Roller Coaster is one of my all time favorite rides, but Barnstormer gives me pause ... go figure.

If it were me, I would try it once just to see if you like it. BTMRR is nothing like a roller coaster....it's just fast, twisting fun.

I'm glad I happened upon this thread. The old Barnstormer was a tame kiddie coaster that was fun. Thanks for the warning of how jerky the new version is!

In 2009 I enjoyed BTMRR but when we rode this past February we were seated in the front row of the last car and I was tossed around far too much for my comfort. Another difference was that in 2009 I rode with one of my granddaughters and this year I rode with my DH. He weighs 50% more than me and when he slid against me on many curves it pushed me against the hard side of the car and that hurt! Sadly, I don't think I'll ride it again with him. We all loved Splash Mountain in 2009, that's about as much of a roller coaster as I really enjoy these days.

BTMR is my favorite ride at MK. I rode Barnstormer once and refuse to do it again.

I hated roller coasters for years, but BTMRR was one of the few I could ride even as a child and loved. That said, if you can't ride the Barnstormer, I think you made the right decision to pass.

I, too, was surprised at how high and fast the barnstormer was seeing as it's supposed to be for very small children. My four-year-old niece, this is her favorite ride. My assessment of the barnstormer is that it is very much like thunder mountain only it's 30 seconds long. So once you start to feel little nervous, if you don't like roller coasters. then it's over. You don't get a chance to really let the dread set in.

I really don't like roller coasters& I am very much afraid of heights and always have been. Plus as I get older I appreciate speed less and less. Having said that, if the line is short I will go on thunder mountain still

Add me to the list of posters who feel more comfortable on BTMRR than Barnstormer. I rode Barnstormer once and felt like I was going to fall out. BTMRR, on the other hand is my favorite ride in the MK. I also enjoy EE, Splash Mtn., and RnR. I'll do Space Mt., but don't enjoy it that much. Even though it's dark in Space Mt. I can see the track structure and how high up I am.

Hi Guys,
SO ive been reading the BTMR wiki, it says the ride has no inversions, but then goes onto say, "climbs the 2nd lift hill" so is the entire track spiralled downards but not on a sharp decent?

do you still get that falling stomach feeling on this ride?

i really want to try this and splash this year, but im terrified since i went on TOT of drops lol that damn TOT ruined me lol

OK...I can tell you that I have Meniere's (inner ear balance disorder) and am very inclined to motion sickness and can ride BTMRR and do many times. I will say in the dark is was more intense, but during the day, fun, fun, fun. TOT drops...not doing it. My DH did it and hated it and got queasy and he NEVER does. He rides Splash over and over with DD. I rode splash once...the last hill did me in. More scary than queasy for me. I never got a falling feeling on BTMRR. Just my 2 cents.

Barnstormer is more of a kiddie coaster, with one lift. Big Thunder Mountain is more thrilling, with 3 lifts. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Coaster will be in the middle with 2 lifts. None of these rides have inversions.

I love them both.

I remember feeling like I left my tummy behind after going over a bump, down a small hill, something.

Ride it during the day it's not as bad. To me, it seems to go faster at night.

We love it
