Barnstormer Roller Coaster and a toddler

My 2 1/2 year old is REALLY looking forward to riding it in September (barring a major growth sport, it's the only roller coaster he'll be tall enough for). I'll be surprised if he doesn't love it. His older brother went on it when he was newly 3. He's a more cautious sort and didn't really like it ("too fast"). But it didn't terrify him or anything; he just didn't want to ride it again.

One of the nice things about this ride is that it's outdoors, so your child can watch it and see if he wants to do it. My grandson, who tends to be a bit nervous, LOVES Barnstormer. You should see him do his imitation of the chickens!!

It definitely is faster than you'd expect. My DS didn't have any trouble with kiddie coasters at fairs when he was a toddler, so when he was 4, my mom took him on Barnstormer. It scared the heck out of him, and it made her nauseous. Plus, the line is just incredibly long for such a short ride. We haven't been back.

In the weeks leading up to our trip, I would talk about the roller coaster w/DS. When we'd go over hills in the car, he'd say we were on the roller coaster. He was completely ready to go on the Barnstormer with Mommy.

Then, the day before we left, I found out I was pregnant, so he got on the ride with Daddy instead. DS has always been a little skittish about new things and this did not go well at all. I really feel bad too, because I think if it would have been me riding with him (and talking to him about the hills in the car, etc), he would have been ok.

The problem we had, was every ride we got on after that (which unfortunately, was the first ride, the first day...of course:rotfl: ) made him nervous...even his fave's like POTC and Small World. It wasn't until the last day that he didn't get scared anymore.

Hopefully, this next trip he'll have forgotten all about the Barnstormer. I'm sure he'll feel better about riding it when his brother (who would go on it now at 15 months) is tall enough to go.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if your child is a little nervous, talk about it before you leave and let them know what to expect. Or wait until the last day to ride it.......:lmao:

I think I'll let my ds watch it first & if he wants to try it, then we'll do it.:thumbsup2

my three year old loved it. she had a blast and asks almost daily if we can go on goofy's airplane ride again (the brainstormer). She's 4 now and can't wait to try the ones she was too short for last summer!

I am glad I came across this post. My daughter will be just shy of 3 and I wasn't even going to attempt this ride.

Now, I will.
