Does Barnstormer have seat belts as well as a lap bar? Im plus sized and Im worried that he will have no restraint if he sits with me and the lap bar was to far away from him?
It's a very calm coaster. disney isn't in the business of letting small children get hurt, you'll do fine and they design with many different body types in mind.
I also think it's a lapbar but it might just be a bar you hold onto and that doens't move.. I really don't remember.

I'm a large guy as well, lap bar doesn't even remotely restrain my 2yo. He just held on to it but there are no negative G's so it's not like he was going anywhere. The lapbar did come down far enough to. Kick the door opening to prevent him from getting out until it was raised.
I'd guess that most children ride Barnstormer with an adult who is larger than they are. If it were a safety concern, there would be individual lap bars and/or seatbelts.
Definitely just a lap bar. If you are larger than your child, their body would not touch the bar. They won't fall out, but they could try to climb out. When we were there in December, we saw a panicking girl try to climb out of her seat and the mom had to forcefully grab her and place her back in to her seat. Scary!
My rail-thin DD never fell out of anything (despite my jaw-clenching fear of that the first few times on Space Mountain!!), so I think he'll be fine. You can always put your arm around him--the back is low enough for that. Have fun
