Ok so on another thread alot of people were saying how they like bare minerals makeup. I got a starter kit for Christmas, and I want to like it, but...It just seems too natural. My face looks tan, but I don't look like I have any makeup on. I got a kit that's supposed to be shimmery. Is all the bare mineral makeup like this? Is there any bolder colors like a dark purple? I do like the eyeliner, that you use a brush to put on. That's the one that came in my kit. But really after a couple hours, that doesn't even look very bold. I really don't wear alot of makeup, but I like to see my eyeshadow..lol. Is the point of bare mineral makeup to look natural as if you're not wearing any makeup?

With the BE makeup the look depends on how much you put on. I know that when I use it to go to work I only use a small amount just to get some coverage and even out my tone, but when I go out at night I use a bit more foundation for maximum coverage and really layer on the blush and eye shadow.

Did your starter kit come with a video? I know that the starter kit I got years ago had a video that explained how to get max coverage that would compare to any liquid or cream foundation. You just have to use a lot more product and buff it in really well. The buffing is the key.

Also, if you like their liner that you apply with the brush you'd love their automatic pencil liners. I LOVE mine! It goes on so smooth and creamy. It blends out when I'm making a smokey eye perfectly!

Oh, and if you really want great tips, watch Leslie (the owner of BE) when she's on QVC. She shows how to put it on, gives great tips, and it's usually 2-3 hours at a time so you can DVR it and save it for future reference. And it doesn't hurt that some of the kits they sell are GREAT deals.

I don't want to look like I'm wearing makeup so that's why I use it. It just helps even out my tone and cover up the blotchy spots.

They did appear to have eye color that was pretty bright when I was in the store last time. If you have a physical location maybe go in and have them make you up and see how you like the looks of the eye colors?

This is exactly why I like it. :) I don't like to look like I'm wearing makeup, I like a natural look. I don't use their eye shadow or liners, I just haven't tried them, but I love the way it evens out my skin tone. When I want to use colors on my eyes I use Avon colors or some I got from Hot Topic, I think the brand is Warpaint.......that might be wrong but it's stuck in my head so it might be right. :)

Thank you for the replies. I just feel like i'm putting on alot of makeup with no results.lol. Normally in other makeup I wear face powder, eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner, and mascara. With my bare minerals makeup I look natural like I have no makeup on, but I feel like i'm covered in makeup. And everytime I touch my face it just rubs off in my hand.

I have used Bare Minerals for many years( i have skin issues that dont allow me to waer liquid foundations) and I actually didn't learn how to get the best application until I went to a consultation from a company rep at Sephora two years ago. The key is to buff, buff, buff. The blending of the product is what allows it to "set" better. It should look like there is no product on your brush before you apply it to your skin. Once you get the swirl, tap, buff technique down it really does cover well. Also, try the Prime Time eyes before you apply eye shadow. It primes lids and keeps your shadow on for longer. If you want more intense eye shadow color, just wet your brush before you dip it in the color. Don't give up just yet.... Practice and I hope you learn to like it, I won't use anything else ;)

I LOVE BM! I received a pressed eyeshadow package for Christmas that I believe my DH ordered from QVC (where I got most of my BM from). This has dark shadows that really stay on and show up. OP: I would try their pressed eye shadow line.

There is a really cool message board, BE addicts. I don't have the link anymore but you might be able to google it. There are pages that are just info as well as message forums. They describe techniques like wet application, foiling eye color (making it more intense and shiny), mineral veil sandwich for better coverage (layer of mv, layer of foundation, layer of mv), etc. Ladies there know a lot and are very willing to help.

I do like my BE but technique is important. Primer really helps too!

I have seen These products in store but have never bought anything but I would like a product to even out skin tone and blotchy skin seems like you have found one. Which product from this line should I get?

I just use the foundation and the mineral veil. There is also a concealer you can use to cover up redness that works really well.

If you go into the store they will find you the right shades of everything.

I'm not a fan of BE. I prefer www.everydayminerals.com, to BE.

I like that EM has options of coverage, as well. I know that BE came out with a matte version, but I'm not that impressed with it.

I do agree primer is essential, as is application. However, I don't necessarily want to look like MAKEUPFACE, but I also have no desire to look "au natural" because if I did, I wouldn't be wearing makeup. ;)

I'd give everyday minerals, a whirl. I really like it, and have been using it for years (and found out about it, on The Dis many many moons ago.... at least 2005-ish)
