Barcelona Short Break - our 1st Anniversary, January 2008

Where would you recommend we go given that we will only have about 4 hours spare? So much to see - so little time. Still we plan on returning some day and doing Barcelona justice.

Tammy

..hmm... tricky one.. I reckon I'd just do a general stroll of the city old town.. you'll probably start in the area of Pl de Catalunya, which is at the top of the Ramblas, and I'd wander down there (south), east along the seafront, then back up into the Barri Gotic and El Raval... if you've got the time I'd head north from Pl de Catalunya as far as the first group of Modernista buildigs at Casa Battlo.

If you are determined to 'do' a sight in your four hours, then I'd decide between Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera..

Mike :)

Great report Mike, I really enjoyed the photos which bring it all to life as if you were there.

As Tam says, we will only have a few hours in Barcelona before our cruise in August, but at least itwill give us a taster for what it is like.

By the way, happy birthday! ;)

Kev

Fantastic way to spend your 1st anniversary

Susan

As always Mike, a fantastic report.

Glad you both had such a wonderful Anniversary.

Fantastic report, you should write travel guides:)

What a great trippie for such a short trip!

Loved the photos - lots of great memories stirred, plus plenty of seeds sown for our next visit (no idea when, but it's on our list! ;) )

Thanks for sharing your trippie with us, Mike. Sorry that Amanda was poorly, but sounds like you had a wonderful anniversary apart from that. I am totally impressed about the free mini bar. Barcelona looks beautiful and I hope to get there one day.

Great photos and report Mike, we wanted to go to Barcelona this year but probably won't be able to afford it with California. Definitely next year though as I want to go even more after reading your report! :thumbsup2

.. and we're already planning to go back again! I'm gonna stop writing about it though, as the flights are getting dearer!:confused3

I loved reading this report, because although I know Barcelona pretty well as my sister and her family lived there and in Sitges for 7 years you described places that I had never heard of. Your pictures were great too. Sounds like you both had a fab time. It makes me want to go back again.

Thanks for another entertaining trip report. Your writing and photos make arm chair traveling a joy. I read this one during lunch break, eating my tuna sandwich while gazing at that first photo of gorgeous seafood. I'm more than a little jealous of your ability to fly an hour or two from home and be in such an exotic place. I could take off and fly the same distance in any direction and still be in the US!!! I would probably land in a nice place mind you, but Barcelona it wouldn't be! Afraid a teacher's salary and the puny US dollar make it unlikely that I will ever be able to see those incredible buildings you photographed for myself, so once again, thank you for sharing them. I'll be looking for your Rome trip report. Please, keep traveling and writing. Best wishes to you, Mike and Amanda, and a belated Happy Anniversary.

.... it's a lovely city, to besure. There are several places we still want to see around the area - I think it could be a while before we feel we've 'done' everything.:)

..thank you, Susan, you are very kind.:) I'm still 90% of the way through my Rome trippie from late last year.. I'll try and hurry it along!;)
