Barcelona Hotel Reviews/Questions (all in one post):

Thanks so much for the info! I can't wait for our stay there on 8/7!

Ramblas 33, 08002 Barcelona

We stayed here, one night prior to our cruise..
Breakfast is included.

we paid $180.00

It is ok, for a one night stay, if you would like to be right on las Ramblas.
It is toward the port end of las Ramblas.
trip from the airport was 40 euros.
but we had 4 people and 8 bags.

trip to the port was short.

Everything I had read about avoiding jetlag said to stay up the entire next day and not take a nap. Well, of course the first thing everyone wanted to do was take a nap. I knew if they once laid down they would never get back up so I refused to let them! Instead we all took showers and changed our clothes with plans to go sightseeing.

haha...you're welcome. I thought it was so funny to see all the hanging laundry. We had a nice view from the front room of our apartment but from the back room we could just see the laundry.

Hi,

This is my first post. I have been a little bit of a lurker (sorry), and finally registered today. We will be on the 08/08 Med Cruise.

We got a rate of 99Euros per night, and we can change our mind and cancel without a penalty if we do so by 6pm 08/07.

Anyone else staying at this location?

:) Dyan

190 Euro a night...but worth every penny. Small hotel with only 50 rooms, but the service is out of this world. Walked in for first visit before the cruise, and it was early and room wasn't ready. Left for some touring, came back for a shower and the luggage was in the room. Took showers and headed out for dinner. Upon our return, clean towels in the room, the bed turned down with chocolate. Everything we needed we asked for and received immediately. We received an upgrade for our post cruise stay...and wow...the bathroom was simply amazing. I could have slept in it.

The subway stop is back at the airport. Catch the shuttle back to the airport and ask the driver to drop you at the train station instead of the terminal.

It was ok, but hard to find. Look for the "Sixt rental car" shuttles--they have a sign on them that says "Renaissance" or some such.

See my review below.

We used Angie's Taxi. They were in the lobby early (before we got down there) and gave us a quick tour on the way to the ship. Lots of shuttles and taxis available, however.

Review:

My family and I spent two nights this month at the BCN Renaissance Airport hotel. In general, I would say that I was less than pleased with the experience. My family and I paid extra to stay in the "Elite Zone" area of the hotel.

The positives from the trip were:
  • Staff in the lounge area was very friendly
  • Pool area was nice if a little cold (and we never did figure out how to turn on the fountains)
  • Room was nice, modern, and up-to-date.

The negatives were:

  • The first night we had *five* false fire alarms. The next morning, the staff acted like this problem had happened before. No apology or compensation was offered.
  • There was no separate check-in area for Elite Zone customers. It took 30 minutes to check into the hotel with only about 7 guests in front of me in line. Not a fun thing after an overseas flight.
  • My request (including an advance phone call) for a rollaway bed or room to accommodate three people was completely disregarded.
  • The Elite Zone lounge frequently ran out of supplies in both the morning and evening; it seemed understaffed and particularly undersupplied.
  • The hotel advertises a shuttle bus to downtown, but it only runs twice each morning and twice each evening. When we arrived five minutes prior to the morning departure, we were told "the bus is full" and basically to come back in an hour to try again (not really an option for my family as we had tour tickets). Nobody seemed to care. Other shuttle busses sat in the parking area, idle.
  • The airport shuttle bus runs more regularly, but is disguised as a "Sixt Rental Car" Bus with a little sign on it that says "Renaissance Hotel Barcelona" taped to the side.

In general, for the money, I wish I'd tried someplace different.

Thanks for your review... We just got back. I too wished we had somewhere else. We used Marriott points...

The transportation back and forth between the hotel and airport was great. We actually needed because we had loss our luggage so it was convenient to the airport. However, it was not convenient to anything else. The shuttle that runs to downtown only runs twice a day which isn't really convenient at all. We took the airport shuttle to the subway station at the airport and then, took the subway to downtown. That whole process took about 1 hour to complete one way...

Check-in and out process is very slow. On our way home we had a 7 am flight so we had to be in the lobby at 4:30 am to make sure we had enough time to check out. We had to make the 1st shuttle to the airport for flight home. They do not have credit card check-out. You must check-out in person at the front desk.

We had no problem getting our rollaway bed. Also, this was one of the few hotels that allowed 4 in a room. However, the 4th person had to be under 12 years old. However, they did not give you extra towels. We had 2 and that's it.

Finally, there was no store to buy supplies nearby like water & snacks. They had drinks in their mini-frig that you use for free but it wasn't enough. We wanted a big jug of water but no where was there a store.

Also, we felt trapped the 1st night as we had to eat in their bar/restaurant. The food was fine but very expensive. We ordered two pizzas that cost 12 euros each (they weren't very big just enough to feed two people), one ceasear salad & bottled water. Our small dinner costed 45 euros that's very expensive once converted to US dollars.

We took a cab from the hotel to the port and it costed us 30 euros which is way cheaper than what Disney was charging. Some people took the free airport shuttle to the airport so that they could take Disney transportation to the port from there. We had 4 pieces of luggage and I was worried about it fitting but it fit fine.

For the last day we were way too tired to do sight seeing so we probably should have spent the night at a beach resort type hotel instead. We did do the double decker bus tour. For the price I thought it was very expensive and kinda boring. I'd stay here only as a place to sleep not as a place to relax or to enjoy the sights in town...
