Barcelona flights

Oops, sorry -- that was $1,477 (with taxes) for all three of us -- not each. So now I'm seeing rates at about $600-$800 each, so it will cost us about $400-$1,000 more. That's why I keep shopping around.

The problem is when I booked in 2007, I booked at the 11 month out mark thinking that was a good idea to save from inflation. And then two months later they had a sale and I would have saved another $400 -- but the fees to do it outweighed the savings. So I think I am going to wait to see what else comes up in the next year.

I was just trying to see if someone had a magic formula for this LOL

Thank you for clarifying -- I was really worried about taking this trip for a second! :-P

For the Turkish Airlines plug over here the sponsored the Batman v Superman movie (not sure about in states) and are really upcoming in Europe at the moment. Looking at thief stats they look like a great airline

Twice I flew to Barcelona from Los Angeles so obviously I didn't have a direct flight on either trips. My first trip to Barcelona was from Los Angeles, Miami, Madrid and then Barcelona. My second trip to Barcelona was from Los Angeles, Miami to Barcelona. For both flights I flew first class to Barcelona and from the final destination that the cruise ended (Orlando the first cruise and Puerto Rico for the second cruise) using my saved mileage and the total cost was less than $20 for each trip.

Has anyone used Travelocity or Hotwire or Expedia for flights? I keep reading mixed reviews about them.

I have used Expedia only, didn't have any issues but I knew what and where and when to book. I didn't have may options at that time, had to go.

The cost of the flight to Barcelona is what sealed the coffin on the TA for me. The cost of one way for my family was only $100 less than round trip in most instances. That is where they get you. I haven't found anything from Philly to NYC (with only one stop, i.e. Dublin, Madrid, Lisbon) for less than $2,500 and as much as $4,500 (that was TAP airfare). From the NE TAP has always been the most expensive, even that far out. I have seen deals from FL tho. My parents are in FL and MIA is always a lot less to Lisbon than same time period from Newark, although I hear they are going back to JFK soon since Jet Blue (?) bought major interest in them.

I haven't found anything direct either as of yet, just don't see anything. Most airlines are only at April 2017 booking too. Air Lingus was the least expensive I found at 789 pp. Believe me I was up nonstop for 2 days searching everywhere.

For the extra $100 I would rather take the cost in air and fly to Europe and enjoy Europe for a while; rather than jump on ship the day after we get there and leave. Although a missed opportunity to see some relatives in Lisbon, but it would be only for a day anyway.

It was hard turning down that TA.

Edited: my airline TA is still searching, she said there is something called Euro or air Europa something that flys reduced rate. Apparently my relatives have flow it and it was great, so still hope....

What would happen if I booked a round-trip but only used the one way to Barcelona part? Do they penalize you for that? I'm noticing that round-trips are cheaper than the one-way.

They get annoyed if you do that, and may effect future flights.

This could be a dicey issue for you. Assuming you are doing a WTA, you fly over to Europe on round trip ticket and you take the ship.
It could flag your record when you back to the US Customs. They are on a higher status looking for people heading to the middle east that might do the same use a round trip as a one-way to train.

As an airline employee, I highly recommend not using them. Most of the time you can find the same price, or within a few dollars, directly on the airline site. Personally, I use Kayak or Skyscanner to search for the best price, and then just click the link directly to the airline website and buy the ticket there.

The problem with tickets booked through a 3rd party site, is that the tickets are usually purchased at a bulk or similar rate from the airline and have no value associated with it individually. Basically this means that if you encounter any problems in your trip (missed flights, etc) the airline will likely not be able to do anything with the ticket, because they can't see how it was paid for or what the value of the ticket actually is. Again, this isn't all tickets, but it is many of them.

You will also be playing seat-roulette when it comes to seat assignments, because the seats that you select on the third party site will likely not be available within the airline system.

If the discount is hundreds of dollars different, it might be worth the gamble, but for a few bucks? Definitely not.

Just booked the Med cruise for Sept 10 for this year. I was watching flights to a number of cities in Europe for about a month. They were jumping all over. But the average for round trip was around $1,100 from St Louis. Last night I checked on Expedia and found United to Barcelona for only $740. WooHoo! Cheapest flight to Europe I have done. So keep looking till you find a somethIng that you feel is a good deal. Never planned a cruise with this short notice either. But got all the port adventures and Palo that I wanted. Also got first slot for port arrival.
