Barbieri's Colorado Trip

We took a couple of trips to Colorado this summer. We went up for a week near Fourth of July because I needed to be up there for a data cleanup project. We went again towards the end of the summer for vacation. My parent's live about an hour and a half away in a town called Estes Park.

I just finished a putting together a slideshow of photos from the two trips. I might make a few changes to it, but I think it's close to finished. You can see it on a Windows PC by downloading it from here. I'll convert it from an executable to a video soon for non-Windows people. If you have any suggestions for changes, feel free to make them.

I'll post some of my favorite photos from the trip soon.

I've been taking pictures of people putting their hands through this tree stump for almost 20 years. I don't know why.

There is nothing like a lake in a mountain valley. This is Emerald Lake.

Darn cold waterfall near Great Sand Dunes

Walking out on the dunes in the evening. The wind was howling. The sand didn't blow high, but it blew hard. When I stood on a ridge, I felt like my legs were being sand blasted.

Lame attempt at star trails. I was tired and not thinking well when I shot it. The stars were amazing that night. The Milky Way was extremely clear. It was one of those nights that made it very clear why our distant ancestors were so obsessed with the stars.

The boys love playing on the dunes.

I douse them with liquid nitrogen and then hang them from a string. I photoshop out the string later. You have to be careful. They don't bend at all after you've doused them.
