Barbershoppers: Have you sung with the Dapper Dans?

My wife and I had just got done being in the Music Man. I was in the Quartet and she was a Pick a little lady with an amazing voice :). Anyway... I told the Dapper Dans we were just in the Music Man and I was in the Quartet (lead). Well half way down main street (we were on the horse drawn carriage) they asked me to sing the lead on Lida Rose, and then my wife comes in with the part that Marian the librarian sings ... "Sweet and Low"... it was awesome! Our kids were all like wow! And the lady who drives the horses said - you guys ought to ride on here more often and that it was terrific. It was one of the most magical moments we have ever had in the park.

When we were done it was like 9:20 am (we arrived a little after rope drop), and we looked at each other and said - How are we going top that? It was like the day was already complete! :)

Thanks!

Actually I was incredibly nervous, luckily I had another song in front of it to get a few of the jitters out. One without so much exposure.

Well you did a terrific job!! :thumbsup2
( PS...per your PM....nope, no points for sale ...we put every one to good use!! LOL ;) And yup, very excited for both trips!!:cool1: So excited it makes me wanna sing!!:lmao:)

Wow!! Did Music Man many, (many) years ago in high school.....loved Lida Rose! Definitely sounds like a Magical Memory for you and your family!! :)

Just thought I'd say hey! My brother was a Dapper Dan in the late 90's to early 2000's! He sang base and we always got a kick out of seeing him sing! I love them and it is definitely one of those things that is unique to Disney and adds to the magic. Happy singing

Ok now THAT is a cool story! Awesome!

Very cool. I tell ya, if I ever get tired of being a professional geek I'm gonna move to Florida and try out for the Dans. What better way to spend the day than singing to happy people all day long.

Does your brother still sing? If so with who? What does one do after being a Dan? And do guys do it full time or also work another job?

My DH is a barbershopper (chorus director and quartet lead). On our first trip to WDW in 1991, we found the Dapper Dans in the Harmony Barbershop and he sang a couple of songs with them. On our trip in 2006, we never did find them and he was a little disappointed.

He knows a few guys who have sang with the DDs in Disneyland over the years and would just walk up to them and say hi and they'd pull him in, knowing he's an excellent lead. One time he sang several songs with them on Main Street and the crowd thought he was some kind of plant, rather than a park guest just like them! People in the crowd were mumbling things like, "This must be part of the show." When he walked away with me and our sons, we left them scratching their heads! My DH is used to performing and has no qualms about singing on Main Street (or anywhere else for that matter!).

Cool, where does he direct? I've sung in seven districts, I drop in on other chapters when I travel on business. Nothing near Disneyland though.

So my tip, (been waiting for this to come up -- mind you this is WDW not DL) is to ask CM standing at a podium when and where the Dans are performing. They have it on a little card along with parade times, etc. They will also know from experience what each of those times means, and some of them will be performing in the square and then heading back down main street. That is the best time to find them as they stop often and sing to people.

Heh that's great. Of course, being from the Frozen north, I don't know any of them. But I'll sing with anybody, any time!

I've only been doing this for three years -- that video was at about 2.5 years. Getting more confident every day... can't wait to go back...

Yes, my brother still sings. I know he leads his area chorus. I believe it is the one from Ashland, Kentucky. He has been in a few quartets and competed. He was full time with the Dans, but moved back to be closer to family. I am glad he is back to our hometown. Now I get to see him more often, when I visit my parents. However, the Disney lover in me kinda wishes one day he will go back to Disney. I would really love to get in free!:lmao:

He directs a chorus in the San Francisco Bay Area. Send me a PM if you're ever in the area and I'll let you know where and when they rehearse. They love having guests!

Never sung in Kentucky, but I'll keep it in mind if I'm out that way.

Saw on You-tube - great job! Looks like you had fun - good for you!

Had a blast, glad you liked it.

I'll PM you for some info -- There's been a few times when I *almost* went to SF for training on this or that, and may yet happen as a lot of the tech companies HQ in that area.

Still nobody else has posted youtubes... come on barbershoppers! :confused3
