Banking points - I shouldn’t be confused, but…

Hi All!

Brand new DVC owner! Woo hoo!

This shouldn’t be confusing, but it is scaring me a bit. Our contract (resale) was finally transferred in September, and points finally showed up in our account last week. 200 points in 2021 (100 +100 banked) with a December use year.

Is my banking period for the new points coming available 12/2021 - 7/22? Or have I already missed the banking period for the points that are available starting Dec 2021

Disney’s info says “Vacation Points must be banked four months before the end of your Use Year.”, which I’m assuming means 4 months before Nov 31, 2022. But the website won’t allow me to bank any points, and says the banking period is over. I hope this is because I can’t bank points which would have been available from 12/20, and I can’t bank points from 12/21 yet.

This shouldn’t twist my brain so much!

Aulani is my home resort - have to head “home” to visit Mom at least once a year, so it’ll be nice to count on a few days of play time with just my SO and DD, in addition to family visit time.

Don't feel bad about being confused with a Dec UY. It can be rather challenging as it does not align with a normal mental picture of a calendar start year (Jan). I struggle from time to time with my Sept UY. Fortunately my planning spreadsheets keep things straight. That and frequently checking my DVC Points information on the DVC Member site. With a late month UY such as Dec, your points are always a year behind the calendar start year (Jan), which may be a good or bad thing depending on how you plan.

Based on what you shared, you appear to still be in UY 2020. The contract you purchased had already Banked UY 2020 points (100 pts) into UY 2021 (which starts Dec 1, 2021).

Therefore you have NO points left in your 2020 UY, which ends Nov 30, 2021. You can still borrow from UY 2021 if you want, but that would only be 50 pts available to borrow (50% limit).

On Dec 1, 2021 when your UY 2021 will start.
- You will have 100 pts assigned from 2021 Dec UY. These can be used thru Nov 30, 2022, or they can be Banked into UY 2022 by July 31, 2022.
- You will have 100 BANKED pts which will expire Nov 30, 2022. These points were from UY 2020.
- You have the ability to BORROW 50 pts from UY 2023.
Therefore for booking between Dec 1, 2021 - Nov 30, 2022; you have up to 250 pts to use.

I thought I had it all figured out until I received the “banking period expired” error, then I panicked

I’ll be using 130 points for Aulani, and then banking the remainder for a trip to DW next December. It’s going to be a busy travel year.

Also to clarify, you can use your points now to book Aulani as long as the date in in your 11 month window. You do not need to wait until Dec 1, 2021.

Thanks! I booked our 2022 stay already, so we’re good there. Just need to bank the remaining points, and we’ll be good until next December. Thinking we’ll do DW next Christmas.
