Banking points help

Can someone help walk me thru the banking points process? We are new DVC owners, we bought at Riv last October (155pts, Dec UY). We haven’t even been able to get down to stay there yet! After cancelling 2 trips (March and June), we have a split stay booked and of August (Poly/Riv). We used all 155 pts for this trip plus we bought 12(I think?) OTUP. I am trying to mentally and practically prepare for a potential cancellation.
1. With a Dec UY, July 31 is my banking deadline, correct?
2. What would happen to the OTUP? Are we just out of luck on those?
3. What does the process look like? I cancel the trip, and then bank the points? Can I do that all online or do I need to call? Any waiting between cancelling/banking?
4. Anything else I should know or be prepared for?

I really hope it doesn’t come to this, but may daughter and I both have asthma, and I really don’t want to risk Covid exposure by traveling; I am also concerned about PA implementing mandatory quarantines.

If you cancel the trip by July 31st, you will be able to bank all 2019 UY points and can do so online, It is easy.

OTU points will be returned to your account and expire November 30th, 2020. So, if you don’t travel, they will be lost.

People have been refunded during closure, but since your August trip is when both parks and resorts are open, those points are not eligible for any exceptions.

Yes on #1. For all the rest, you'll be better off calling. The OTUPs have been being refunded, but you'll have to call for that..and they can help with everything else from there.

EDIT: Posted while Sandi was posting...did not realize they were no longer refunding OTUPs.

Thank you both. I’ll survive if we don’t get the OTUP refunded. I am hoping (hope is fading fast) that the new daily cases in FL will start to drop soon and we will still be able to go; but I guess we have about a month left to wait this out.

Keep an eye on your 31-day cancellation date. If you cancel with less than 31 days until your arrival day, the points will go into holding and you will not be able to bank them.​

Oh, wow, thank you!! That is super important to know! Our check in date is Aug 21, and I had no idea there was a 31 day cancellation window. So we have till July 20th. Thank you!

Given recent history? Our Personal experience.... be Leary of banking.

MANY people that banked 2019 points to 2020 are having those points stolen. The general story? You banked 2019 points - targeted for 2020 vacation(s). The 2020 vacation(s) did not occur due to WDW actions. WDW will not allow you to bank those lost points into 2021.

This occurred to us. We had two choices: 1) Transfer to RCI (a bad use of points) 2) RENT.

We choose 2). And in the future? We will not bank - just RENT. PS We really hate the idea of renting . But we can no longer trust DVC .
