I just bought points today at SSR. My UY is August. So my last day to bank 2005 points is 1/31...will I be able to bank all of my points since I didn't purchase until 1/31? My guide said that MS would take that into consideration because my closing date will not be until March - he didn't sound real positive. Does anyone know for sure?

Congratulations!!
I bought last night, and was told that we could have an extension on banking our points since we just bought into DVC. Our guide seemed positive about this.

Congratulations & Welcome Home!

We bought in a week and a half ago and we were told that we would have until the end of Feb to bank all of our points. We were told that by our guide and quality assurance.

I bought points at VB one year toward the end of my use year. They let me bank them as a one time only deal. Glad to WELCOME YOU HOME.

I just added on at 2 resorts last week and was able to bank my points into 2006.

We just sent our paper work back. When my DH talked to the person at Quality Assurance she told him that since our uy is september we have to bank our points by february 28. She said they were already in our account. If we weren't going to use them for a reservation we should be sure to bank them. My question is if we just sent our paper work back yesterday how could we have points in our account already? Don't we have to wait until final approval to bank or book? The papers state a march 27 closing. Will we know before then if it has been approved? And also, we have a trip planned for december of this year. If we want to use the points we have from the purchase (which I am assuming are 2005 points) do they have to be banked now if we want to use them for this december's trip? Thank you

Quick stupid question... if I'm planning on renting my 05 points (UY is August), I don't have to (nor want to) bank them, right? I just have to make sure whoever is going to rent the points will use them before August?

We were told that the points were put into our account when they gave us a member ID #. We also don't close until March, but could already be using points. In the contract it says that if you use points then don't end up buying you just reimburse DVC for what you used.

You mean actually "using" the points? As in staying in a dvc unit? Wow. I didn't think they'd allow that until the purchasing process was complete. So if we book a trip for the end of the year and then change our minds or not be approved I suppose the trip would just be automatically cancelled? You wouldn't owe anything to dvc then. Right? Thanks Deb.

With a September use year, yes, you would want to bank those now to have them available for a December trip, since by then you will be in your '06 use year. Just be sure when you book, that you ask them to use the banked points first. They usually do that automatically, but say it just to be sure. Usually, as soon as you sign, you are able to make reservations, so yes, you can make your reservations for December now, but be sure to do that banking first. The only thing necesary for those transactions is your member number.

Thanks so much Diane. One more question though (for now LoL) If we make a reservation for december "now" do we still have to bank the 2005 points first or does MS just put them in some sort of holding for the reservation? Forgive me if that is a stupid question. We are reading the handbook but I guess doing it will be a better way of learning than reading it. LoL

Congratulations & Welcome Home!

We purchased in 1993 while at WDW, and actually checked in and stayed in the DVC villa (now named OKW) that same night. In fact we were in the room only an hour or so after signing the papers.

We were given another piece of paper that we signed, stating that if for some reason we did not complete the purchase, that we would be charged the rack rate for the room

disneyfreaks,

you would not need to bank any of 2005 points if you are going to use all of those points for that reservation. If there are some left after the reservation is made, or if you are positive how many points you will use ,you can bank those you will not use. Be aware that if you do not call to make the reservation, you may want to call and bank them asap. You can bank these anyway, because you can still use them after your use year for your December trip(ie, sept use year, you can book after oct. 1st,etc.)

We'll get all of this eventually. (I hope LoL) We so appreciate you all sharing everything you know about dvc. You guys on the Dis Boards are the greatest!! I hope someday we too will be able to share our knowledge with other newbies. Much thanks again.

You can do it all as one transaction when you call MS.

I called MS this afternoon to make our december booking. We need two 2-bedroom units at SSR this coming december. We want to pay cash for the two weekend nights and use our points for the sunday through thursday days. Everything was going well until I mentioned that we need these units to be lock-offs. The lady at MS said we cannot mix cash and points with the lock-off villas. Only the dedicated ones. It will have to be all cash or all points. What I am wondering is would we be able to pay cash for one 2-bedroom and use points for the other one? Or pay cash for a lock off and book the other one as a dedicated and mix cash and points on just that one? Is that allowed? And how would that affect our request for the two to be close together? Are lock-offs and dedicated villas in different areas of each other? Also she gave me the 25% member discount on both rooms. When I mentioned that no member would be staying in the second unit she said it didn't make any difference because a member was booking both units. Does that seem right? If this is wrong will we have to pay for the error when we check in even if the discounted rate is listed on the confirmation papers? I am really sorry for all of the questions but this has me a bit confused.

I really need some input on this so I'm gonna bump this up.
