I have 230 banked points that expire 2/2006 and Cape Cod exchanges are sold out this summer. Can I reserve a week at OKW with banked points and then put into inventory to try to get Cape Cod 2006? Usually you have 2 years, but I'm not sure if that excludes previously banked points.

Thanks!

Yes and no. You can bank a week into II but you don't reserve a week first. What you need to know is what resorts you want, unit size and then find out from MS what the "seasons" are with those resorts. It's likely they'll all be high season but you need to know. If you want a 2 BR and it's high season, you will need 270 points. Two of the 4 resorts have studio and 1 BR so 160 points will do it. You could always bank two weeks (one studio and one 1 BR) but you'd still need more points. Or you could bank a lower season but I don't think they'll let you search for a high season exchange if you do. And if they will, you likely won't have much trade power. You can even deposit and search for a week for this summer.

You could also rent them out (my recommendation) and/or look for a private exchange.

In addition to Dean's advice, you won't "bank" a reservation at all. MS will just accept your points in the appropriate amount (depending on the size and season of the accommodation you'll want) and deduct those from your account and initiate the search for your request thru II. They will handle making the DVC reservation needed for the exchange.

I'd also agree with Dean's suggestion of trying to rent your points or make a trade yourself thru a site like www.tug2.net .

Good luck!

Agreed but DVC will end up banking a week and the week they bank will determine the expiration of the deposit in question. It's almost irrelevant for search first but is important for deposit first. Say they deposit a Summer OKW unit (1 BR or 2 BR), one must travel by 2 years from that date. With II's usual interpretation you'd have to complete travel by 2 years from that date giving you actually a year and 51 weeks from the start of the week plus the lead time. You could and should ask DVC to deposit a week as late as possible to allow it to be available longer for an exchange. I've been told you can't exchange back into DVC with this method but I've never tried it, it's certainly worth asking about.
