Banking and use year question

Can someone please let me know if I have this correct?

I have an august use year. If I have points from august 2024 that I want to use in august 2025, do I need to bank them first and then make my booking? And if I don’t bank and use, would a reservation for aug 2025 automatically be made by borrowing from aug 2025 points?

Yes

You wouldn't be borrowing the 2025 points, you'd just be using them in their regular use year. Any borrowing would come from your August 2026 use year.

If you want more assurance, I reccomend calling Member Services. They're super friendly and can help you do all the banking and booking.

Last note: I'm assuming your entire reservation is in August / September. If any part of your desired reservation crosses your use year (starts in July and goes into August) weird stuff happens and you need two reservations. I'd definitely call Member Services in this case. They can make a note to request that you don't have to move rooms.

Point must be in the correct status when you use them to make your reservation.

An Aug 2025 trip is in your Aug 2025 UY and can be booked with banked 2024, 2025, and borrowed 2026 to complete the reservation.

So, you need to bank first. If you don’t, it will use your 2025 points and borrow 2026 if needed.

If you don’t bank first, you can bank before your banking deadline, and then go in and reallocate them to the trip.

Just remember that if you did borrow any 2026 because you don’t bank first, those won’t be returned.

August use year runs from Aug 1 of any given year to July 31 of the next year. Thus, any Aug 2024 use year points cannot possibly be used for a reservation in August 2025 unless they are first banked before making the reservation.

When determining what use year points you will use for a reservation, wipe from your mind the date you go online or contact MS to make the reservation and look only to the dates you will be at the DVC Resort. Thus, if today, Jan 20, 2025, you go online to reserve an August 2025 reservation, the fact that it is now only Jan 2025, 7 months before your desired reservation time is irrelevant to applicable point use. The reservation you could make would use August 2025 use year points as the "current" use year points for that trip, Aug 2024 points can be used only if they are first banked, and when making the reservation today, you could if needed borrow points from your Aug 2026 use year.
