Banking and losing

We have 116 UY 2019 banked to 2020. We have a reservation for Sept - Oct using 100 points. If that is canceled do we lose those points? They will not be allowed to book trip in November 2020 for October 2021? I am thinking I am losing 116 points. I do not have hope WDW will be open this year. Unless larger scale testing like a miracle happens how can a business like Disney World and resorts open again - what does that look like. I work at a university and we are trying to understand that for our campus. So if I assume my reservation will be canceled I will lose those points, correct?

What is your use year? It makes a difference. E.g., if it is Sep, you will have until end of Aug 2021 to use the banked points; If it is Feb, you will have only until the end of Jan 2021 to use them. Nevertheless, there is no scenario for possibly using those already banked points for a trip in Oct 2021.

It is too early to make assumptions about what Disney will be able to do or not do come fall with the parks/resorts.

So, with your June UY, your 116 2019 points are now valid for use until May 31st, 2021.

So, if you cancel October, at least 31 days in advance, then you will need to book another trip on those points before they expire May 31st, 2021, If you cancel less than that, all points will not only expire, but will be in holding, and good for reservations booked 60 days or less from check in,

Any 2020 UY points, as long as you cancel more than that 31 days, would be bankable into your 2021 UY by Jan 31st, 2021

As noted above, the points need to be used by end of May 2021. From the number of points involved in the reservation you have, I assume you have a studio and would be looking for a studio if you changed dates. To change to any time in 2021 before June will cost more points for the same number of nights in the same class of room, but possibly you could add some or all of the other 16 banked points and still get the same number of nights and room category.

The problem you have in selecting a new time and making a change is that you may not really be able to wait until August to do so because, depending on the resort, studios could well be filled through the end of May at your resort by late August. I would likely view your situation as something you can sit on for a while before deciding what to do but you might need to make a decision by no later than sometime in July.

It is just a waiting game. We have mid May reservations In a grand villa with a Feb use year. 397 of the points are banked from 2019.

We also have 130 banked points from 19 for use in a reservation for June. I highly doubt it'll be open. First trip to as we are new DVC Members. Our use month is March so we'd have to Feb 2021 to use them if all stays the norm? We wouldn't be able to go back until June 2021.
