banking and borrowing question

I just realized I banked 60 points from 2003 into my 2004 allotment, so I have 175 points left for 2004. If I want to bank them all to 2005, can I do that, will I be allowed to do that with the 60 points? We may not go to VWL this November as planned, but I don't want to loose the points?

You can only bank points once. The 60 points have to be used by the end of your 2004 Use Year.

However, I'm not sure I understand the question completely. Have you already used and/or made reservations with some of your 2004 points? Member Services can make adjustments so that the banked points are used first to "pay" for your trips and that would free up the maximum number of 2004 to be bankable points.

I was confused about that too, Pam. You said you had 175 points "left" from your 2004 year. If you made a ressie after you banked the 60 points, those points should have been used for that ressie. If you banked them AFTER using some of your 2004 points, you might have a problem. I think you should call MS and find out for sure. I usually circle the number of points I bank so I am sure to use at least that number the following year.

Okay - I know it is confusing!

We booked a trip for last November, and then added one last August, I borrowd 110 from 2004, then booked a trip for this February (we leave tonight), I had to borrow those from 2004, I have a March use year, then I banked 60 at some point from 2003 to 2004. Again, not sure why I did all this? So I have my self very confused! I have a trip planned for November of 2004, but we may not go, so this coming August I would need to bank my points to not loose them, but becaue I banked 60 from 2003 into 2004, do I understand it correctly that I cannot bank them into 2005?

LOL!! You've got me confused, too. I'll try to walk through it. However, bottom line, no you cannot bank points a second time. You should be sure that you are using these banked points for a
trip before you use any new Use Year points. (I ended up giving you two scenarios since I'm unclear about what you did, too.)

Use Year 1 March 2002-February 2003

At some point, 60 points were banked from this Use Year into Use Year #2

Use Year 2 March 2003-February 2004

Points from the above Use Year were used for trips in August 2003, November 2003 and February 2004. In addition to the full 2003 allotment, there are 60 banked points and 110 borrowed points that were used for these trips.

Use Year 3 March 2004-February 2005
110 points from this Use Year were borrowed into Use Year 3
Possible trip in November 2004

Use Year 4 March 2005-February 2006 -- Nothing banked or borrowed.

Okay, you banked 60 points from March 2002 into March 2003. You also borrowed 110 points from March 2004 into March 2003. So, from March 2003-February 2004 you had your full allotment of March 2003 points plus 60 banked points and 110 borrowed points. If it's correct that all these points are in your March 2003 Use Year then they all must be used by the end of this month. There is nothing that can be done with any unsued points at this point except put them toward DVC reservations that take place in the next 2 weeks.

On March 1, 2004 you will be receiving your new allotment of points. This will be your total (I don't have that number) less the 110 points you borrowed. You can use these points for trips (including the November 2004 trip) or bank them into March 2005 using the August, November & December deadlines.

Scenario #2

I'm unclear about the banked points. You say you banked them from March 2003 into March 2004. If that is correct, then you will have your full March 2004 allotment less 110 borrowed points but plus 60 banked points. Those 60 points will have to be used between March 1, 2004 and Feb. 28, 2005. The "other" points can be banked according to the banking guidelines. When you make a reservation, be sure that they use those 60 banked points first.

You cannot bank the 60 points again. For this fall have them sub the points for ones you can bank. If you then decide not to go, you can try to rent the points or you will lose them. Bank what you can before the deadlines.
