Banking 2010 points into 2012?

Hi all, I have yet another banking points question. Our next trip after this year will not be until 2012, and we will have 110 leftover 2010 points then we will get 160 in 2011. Do I bank them to 2012? Or is that not allowed? We will use them before 2012 UY starts. Our current UY is March but I did call my guide to see if I could get that changed to April or May because we usually travel in February. So, our 2012 trip will be in February.

I'm afraid you can't do that. Points can only be banked for one year, or borrowed from one year ahead of the current UY. In 2012 you could use points banked from your UY 2011, and borrow upto all of your 2013 points.
In your example if unused the 110 '10 points would expire on the last day of your '11 UY.

No. The UY begins in March (in your case) and ends in Feb (the last day of).

So on Mar 1, 2011 you will recieve your 2011 UY points (which expire on the last day of Feb in 2012 or banked for as long as the then current UY)

Use years vs. Calendar years can be confusing. Maybe this will help:

March 2009 UY = March 1, 2009 - Feb 28, 2010
March 2010 UY = March 1, 2010 - Feb 28, 2011
March 2011 UY = March 1, 2011 - Feb 29, 2012
March 2012 UY = March 1, 2012- Feb 28, 2013

So if you have points from your 2010 UY, you have until the end of Feb 2011 to use them within the UY. If you bank them, you can use them until the end of Feb 2012. You can only bank points forward one UY, so would not be able to use them after Feb 2012.

If you will not be able to use the banked points by the date they expire, you have a few options. You can use them for an RCI/Concierge Collection exchange, you could rent them, or you could upgrade your existing reservation to use more points.

Use year can be confusing Bank your 2010 points 2011 begins March 1st Those 2010 points are good till 2/28/2012. I just used banked points from 2009 for a 2011. My use year at VWL is August and the cruise is July 29th to August 2nd as long as the vacation starts before your new uy it's okay. By saying your vacation is in 2012 as far as DCL is concerned it's really 2011 For you 2012 doesn't start till March 1st

After 10 years I've gotten very good and love August uy We booked a B2B in 2011 7/29 & 8/02 and could have taken advantage of points from 4 uy's as I had 300 points from 2009 to apply to 7/29/2011 cruise (That's really my 2010 uy) Used 2010 points also, then on my 8/02 cruise I used some 2010 plus my 2011 points and could have borrowed from 2012 if I needed to. Just need to get your head around uy being DCL year

The points needed for trips are based on the UY that the trip will happen. In your case, a February 2012 trip will take place in your March 2011 UY (or April, June, etc--whatever you ask to get it changed to).

Since the TRIP falls in the 2011 UY, those 2010 points are available. Trips in your 2011 UY can use banked 2010 points, 2011 points, and borrowed 2012 points.

The easiest way, IMO, to figure this stuff out is to first write down what UY your travel will take place. Once that is known, you can always use banked points from the prior UY, current UY points, and borrowed UY points from the next one. It is all about the time of travel.

A UY runs from the 1st day of the month you have until the last day of the month prior. So, an April UY goest April 1st through March 31st. A June UY (there is no May) goest June 1st through May 31st.

So basically I could use my 2010 points as long as I go before 2012 UY starts in March, so I have to go by Feb 28th which is what I was planning. Am I reading into that correctly? Thanks for being patient I know these questions are asked all the time, I think I'm starting to get it

I'm glad you gave me the info, I just called my guide to get my UY changed to April, good thing I asked before I closed!!!
