Banked Points & Resales

Can anyone tell me the time limit on banked points that you sometimes get when buying resales?
If say 388 points were currently available(210 points from 2008 + 178 banked from 2007) and another 210 coming 4/01/09, use year being April, would we have to use all the 388 points before April 2009 or could we make a reservation for Aug 2009 using them

The 178 points that were banked from 2007 must be used by 3/31/09 since they came from 2007 and were banked into 2008 which began on 4/1/08 and ends on 3/31/09. The 210 from 2008 must also be used by 3/31/09, UNLESS you bank those points into 2009.

So for the August 2009 vacation, you cannot use the 178 banked points, but you could use the 210 points from 2008 ONLY if you bank them into 2009. Obviously, the 210 points from 2009 can be used for the August 2009 vacation.

IMPORTANT - everything keys off the date of the vacation...not the reservation date.

Pay attention to your banking deadlines with respect to the 2008 points...you snooze...you lose...

Not to be MY MOTHER, but you need to learn more about the ins and outs of DVC before buying. Many people post here not having a clue about the ins and outs and the $$$ they have spent - including the maintenance fees due on their purchase. Just trying to be a DVC friend!

I just came across a resale contract I can't figure out....maybe some of you can help me. Thought I would post it here since it definitely applies to the topic.

There is a 170 pt contract for sale with 137 pts currently available (105 + 32 banked from '07) & another 170 coming on 6/09. Why would you not use all your banked points before you tap into your current year points? I thought I was beginning to figure this stuff out, but this one is puzzling me!

Perhaps they cancelled a part of a trip and banked those into the next use year? Maybe that happened after they had already used some from the current year. There are any number of scenarios where that might be the case. Many times I bank points and then decide later to take another trip, so I have to borrow from the next year. That could have been the case here too.

Ohhhhhhhh.......now that scenario could make sense to me. Hadn't thought of that. I figured someone could come up with a reason for this!
