Banked Points Cancellation/reallocation

I'm so frustrated with DVC. I had to cancel a reservation, which was originally booked with some banked points. It was done more than 30 days in advance, so all the points were returned into the current use year. I have other reservations upcoming, and called to request that those banked points be used against my December reservation. I was told that they couldn't because there was no availability at the resort. This is totally ridiculous...I already have the reservation for December...I'm not looking for new availability. Just wanted them to reallocate those banked points.

Then, I was going to change my May reservation from my home resort to another resort. Somehow, they were able to use those points against that May reservation. I asked that they at least reallocate those banked points to my March reservation since there is availability. they wouldn't do that either. I was going to cancel the May reservation and rebook at a different resort.

I just feel that DVC keeps making more and more difficult to utilize your membership. I used to always book trips with banked points, and then cancel one or two days once I finalized my travel plans and they simply reallocated those points to another reservation.

I'm ready to sell my entire membership!!

It depends on the which resort points were used for a reservation and which one you want to reallocate to when you have 2 different resorts involved. The end result cannot be that you reallocated non-home resort points to a reservation made with home resort priority.

Which resort is your December reservation for and which resort points do you want to reallocate to it?

It sounds like the same rules that have always been in place.

:earsboy: Bill

It is only not allowed if you have 2 different resort points.

IE you used 11 month BCV window to book BCV, and you have banked BLT points. Otherwise there is no reason they should not allow this.

If they are all the same resort points call back.

I was always told that you can't reallocate points into a reservation that you booked at the 11 month window. Only reservations that you booked at the 7 month window. So far that's what I've done in the past and it's always worked. I think it has something to do with the home advantage. OP are any of your current reservations booked at the 11 month window? That could be the problem.

I originally booked BWV, which is my home resort for Oct 25-Nov 2 at the 11 month mark. At 7 months, I switched to AKL. Banked points were used on the original reservation, then used on the Oct res. For December, I originally booked my reservation at BWV at 11 months, and again switched to AKL at 7 months. There were no banked points involved in the December reservation.

Then, I needed to cancel the october reservation, and all the points, banked and current year were returned to 2011 use year. So, I simply wanted them to reallocate those original banked points to the December reservation at AKL...which was booked at 7 months.

Oh...and the weird part is that they were willing to reallocate those points against my May reservation, which was booked at 11 months with my home resort priority. I just wanted to use them up early in the use year.

My home resort is BWV and all my points are there. This makes no sense to me at all. I already have the December reservation and the banked points were originally used for a reservation at AKL. I am simply asking them to use the banked points against December now, and return the other points to my account.

Maybe you can just call fresh on Monday, and hope that a different CM can see that it seems you fall inside the rules?

If you are going to cancel something anyway, can't you do that, then make a new reservation specifically using the points you want to use? With the May reservation, since you are moving to a different resort you aren't really changing things...you are canceling and booking something else. Maybe saying it that way would help them understand?

OP, it sounds to me like you should be able to do this. What you want to do is not skirting the 7/11 month booking window. One caveat might be if your December reservation is now within the 30 day window. I am not sure if that would affect reallocation. I agree with a previous poster that you should call MS again and hopefully get someone else who is more familiar with the reallocation process. Good luck!

OP, you sound like you are within the guidelines to reallocate points. You could just email them and ask them to do it. I've done that in the past when I am feeling frustrated and the situation seems so complicated (at least on MS's side). I would give it another try. You could've gotten a CM who just didn't understand. There should not have been any change in your existing reservations.

Given the specifics I'm surprised they weren't willing to do this. If you call back, I'm sure you can get it done. For the record it is my belief that the answer they gave you is the way it should be, that each change is a cancelation and rebooking, but this has not been the way DVC has normally operated. We should all realize that this is an area that could change at any time at DVC's whim.

Sharon do you have an update for us, it's been 5 days almost.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I finally was able to get them reallocated to my March reservation at AKL...however, they made me cancel it and rebook. In addition, they were ridiculous about how it would be handled with the May reservation. If I cancelled the May reservation at BWV and rebooked at AKL, the banked points would have ended up going there.

They made me cancel the May res at BWV, cancel the March res at AKL, rebook March at AKL, then rebook May at AKL. I actually made them get a supervisor, and he was the one that was thoroughly ridiculous.

In order to make sure I got the May res at AKL, I wanted to 'double book' for 5 minutes....to make sure I didn't lose the reservation. I had enough points to do this. This guy wouldn't even accomodate that request and gave me the nonsense about taking a reservation from another member. I was pretty mad at him at this point and I told him he was being totally ridiculous....I wasn't keeping the 2 reservations...as soon as we could rebook March, so as to reallocate those points, I was going to cancel the 'duplicate'. All part of the same call.

I'm still upset about the whole situation. Someone asked if I was at the 30 day mark for December...and the answer was no...at the time this occurred, I was not within the 30 day window for December.

Crazy!

I would have put DH's name on the one May reservation and mine on the other, and just lied that we needed them both. Then the next day I would have cancelled the other.
