Bank before making reservation?

I should know the answer to this, but I'm second guessing myself.

Use year is June. Would like to reserve a trip at 11 months out for August 2025. Would like to use June 2024 points. Do I need to bank these points before I make the reservation? I'm not exactly sure how many points I will need for the reservation, so I am worried about either banking too many or not banking enough.

Yes, you need to bank first if you want to use June 2024 points. If you don’t have any stays planned before May 31 2025, you may as well just bank all the remaining June 24 points at this stage.

If you only want to bank enough for the August trip, just use the points calculator and bank that amount prior to making the reservation.

Thank you, that's what I thought. We are thinking about a quick trip in April, so I'm hesitant to bank all of them. Hopefully we get the room we want for August and I bank the right amount!

When you make the reservation, if you don’t have enough points you will be prompted to bank or borrow

I would figure out how many points you need for the reservation and bank those beforehand. Then book your resy.

Correct. Easy to do it at the time you are booking vs ahead of time.

You just need to bank before doing the reservation which can be moments before, with the only other issue for timing being that your banking deadline is January 31, 2025 for any June 2024 points.

Mentioned above is that the system, when you are making a reservation, gives the option to bank or borrow points. That is not correct. It does give you the option to borrow points if needed, and borrowing can only be done when making a reservation. However, it does not provide any option to bank points while doing the reservation. Any such banking needs to occur before starting the process of making the reservation. If you are looking at making a reservation for which there may be some difficulty getting it at 8 a.m. at 7-months out, be sure to bank points at least 5 minutes before 8 a.m., and probably longer before, so that you can go right to trying to make the reservation at 8 a.m.

I'm afraid that is not correct drusba. The option to bank while making a reservation has been there for a few years. I've done it many times.

So I have a similar question. My use year is December, and I want to make a reservation for Dec. 6-13, 2025. I'm assuming I need to bank my Dec. 2024 points to use for my Dec. 2025 trip. Am I correct?
Then, if this is the case, will I have a problem modifying the reservation? (I plan to secure a reservation at my home resort and then try to modify it to a different resort at the 7-month window.)

You will need to bank the 2024 points prior to or while making your Dec 2025 reservation a the 11 month mark. Banking does not affect modifying at 7 months.
