A newbie to the forum so I wanted to find out any opinions of opening weekend of Bands, Brew & BBQ 2012.
I've attended this event annually for several years including back when SW was still owned by AB. It was much better then, not from an entertainment standpoint, but an overall atmosphere of the park and what was included. The all you can eat offering for 15 or so bucks was nice.
Now, BBQ restaurants offer their best of BBQ, in addition to a live concert of various performers. This past Saturday Foreigner headlined and they were fabulous. Obviously, it's better if you like their music. The BBQ on the other hand was not the greatest. This year Bubbalou's, Wesley's, Sonny's and Sea Worlds own BBQ had time to shine for this event. Unlike last year the BBQ was great (don't recall restaurants names though).
At first, kind of surprised of the restaurants chosen. As a local, I've had Bubbalou's and Sonny's and enjoyed it. I just thought for a themed event as big as SW advertises you would see some top BBQ names present. Since I have never eaten BBQ from Wesley's decided to try it first. I had the two meat combo; pulled pork/brisket and two sides for $12. As well as 1lb of smoked chicken wings $9. Kind of pricey but comes with territory. The lines can be long and seemingly employees of vendors seem disorganized at times to keep the flow running smoothly. My overall impression of their BBQ was average. The food was cold, luke warm at best and not that flavorful. The baked beans were not good at all. Truthfully, I've had better from a can. The wings were the best of the items chosen, but not the best.
Second time around I figured I'd go with Sonny's as I eat there on occasion. It was meats/sides combo for $13. It was pulled pork, brisket, and ONE small rib. Really, one rib!!! Again, food was cold. Obviously, the warmers were not hot enough because food shouldn't be cold from being put on a plate, to first bite within 1 minute. Honestly, not the best I've had from Sonny's either.
Overall, it was a nice afternoon although a bit chilly as the day ended. Entertainment was GREAT, BBQ not so great. Last year the BBQ far exceeded this year. I'm not sure why SW doesn't get well known BBQ vendors for this annual event, not that I'm an expert but considering it's SW you should have a better selection to chose from.
Any other thoughts or opinions to share is welcome.......
